Rodney Laulusa was armed with two long fishing knives and 10 feet away from police when three officers opened fire, killing him Jan. 22 at Palolo Valley Housing.
An internal criminal investigation on the shooting that has sparked community debate notes that 20 rounds were fired and that Laulusa was shot 14 times.

I think it’s good they make all these dumb law because after a point everyone will be labeled a criminal or no comply with the law like fireworks probation! people try to comply with the law now! Before you know it people will just do anything they want!
Oh ignorant youth, the world is not a joyous place. The time has come for you to dispense with the frivolous pleasures of childhood and get down to honest toil until you are sixty-five. Then and only then can you relax and collect your social security and live happily until the time of your death!

So if you have a Ruger GP100 10 shot revolver, what are you supposed to do, plug every other hole?  Or does this pertain to detachable mags only?

NY took the position that, when a revolver or pistol magazine was purchased prior to January 15, 2013, with a cylinder/magazine that does not conform to the latest limits, the owner is simply supposed to only load the legal number of rounds at a time.

In other words:  The Honor System.  It would take an officer inspecting your firearm to know if you loaded "too many" to be legal.

I'm glad criminals will honor those limits, too.

New York also prohibits the  knowing possession of an ammunition feeding device that has a capacity of,
or can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than seven but less than ten rounds of ammunition,
where such device contains more than seven rounds of ammunition.  Such possession is illegal even if the
device was lawfully possessed prior to January 15, 2013.  Thus, it is legal to possess ammunition feeding
devices that have the capacity of, or that can be converted to accept, 8-10 rounds, so long as they were
lawfully possessed prior to January 15, 2013, and do not actually contain more than seven rounds of ammunition.

Takayama noted that he WILL bring it up for a committee hearing to see both sides of the issue.  So everyone here better show up to the hearing next month.  Start planning to take off work for it

You don't need to bring up anything in committee to hear both sides of an issue.  He knows who HIFICO is, and he knows how to set up a meeting with the Chief.  All he has to do is meet with each of the two groups.  If he were truly "neutral" why bring it to committee?  You have to ask yourself why HPD asked this particular rep to introduce this bill.  I agree with Change, this is all kabuki and shibai.
No one is coming, it’s up to us.

Legislation should never be about depriving law abiding citizens of something, but rather taking those things away from criminals.

First email of the year if any of you guys need ideas.

Rep Takayama,

I have recently learned that you are intending to introduce legislation that would limit the capacity for firearm magazines.  I would like to ask you to reconsider further restricting the rights of Hawaii's citizens.

New years eve was a celebration of our hopes for a brighter future.  The seemingly endless display of illegal fireworks was however a glaring testimonial of the ineffectiveness of prohibition in general and HPD in particular.  I have no faith that your overtures toward a magazine ban will accomplish anything beyond banning high capacity magazines at the Koko Head shooting complex.  Criminals do not care if they're following the law and there is an abundant supply of magazines already on the island and there is almost no meaningful barrier to more arriving even after a ban is put in place.  3d printing has already produced functional magazines and the internet and social media provide numerous how to guides to create similar items.

Imposing magazine restrictions will have the adverse affect of making myself and others like me  less able to effectively defend our homes and families from increasingly brazen criminals.  Word has gotten out that HPD is incapable of a meaningful response to property and violent crime.  If I can not count on the state of Hawaii to effectively protect myself, my family, and my property from those who would wish me harm then please do not further impede my ability to be my own effective first responder.

Respectfully,

Direjackalope

Good video.
Best gun for home protection is short barrel 12 Ga. shotgun open choke.
First round is 00 buckshot,  second is a deer slug, next 00 buckshot, the deer slug, and so on.
I suppose the new law would make a six shot shotgun illegal.  So much for your Mossberg 500.

My first choice to defend my home would be my AR15.  I keep it loaded with a 20 rd mag for more compactness, but all the spare mags are 30 rd.  I considered a 40 rd mag, but it is too long.

It's legal if you only have the "legal number" of rounds loaded, assuming the proposed HI law piggybacks on NY's law.

In my case, I'll expend the legal 5 +1 I have in the firearm, plus the remaining 9 I speed-loaded from my pocket directly into the chamber until the threat was stopped.

That'll be my story, and I'll be sticking to it.

Once the situation is resolved, it only takes a couple of seconds to rack the slide enough times before the Cops arrive to have a more "common sense" number of rounds loaded.

the argument I sometimes face with associates etc. is that if someone is coming at you with a knife why do you need an AR15? I know. Preaching to the choir. But it shows how much the general public is led to believe that when a criminal comes at you you're supposed to present a "fair fight".
