Bill Barr demands Apple help unlock terrorist iPhone
« on: January 21, 2020, 06:35:42 PM »
"Attorney General William Barr demanded Monday that Apple help the U.S. government unlock two iPhones in its terror investigation of the Saudi air cadet who last month killed three sailors at a Navy training base in Pensacola, Florida. “This situation perfectly illustrates why it is critical that the public be able to get access to digital evidence,” Mr. Barr said."

A similar thing happened with the San Bernardino shooter's iPhone.

This provides very interesting 1st amendment and 4th amendment issues to think about.

I just tried the link and I get the paywall too but the first time I opened it there was none... weird.

It doesn't seem like a 1st amendment issue right off the bat but I think that it may apply as it would require Apple to make a computer program the way the government wants. In the case where the guy was selling or giving away plans for 3D printers to print a firearm the 1st amendment was raised as a defense. The 1st amendment may be a weak defense here though, the 4th amendment is really the main one.
