Local FENIX service?
« on: February 11, 2020, 09:50:11 AM »
Well, my trusty Fenix E11 is getting iffy. Sometimes I have to switch it multiple times before it comes on. Sunday, I couldn't get it to work at all when I needed it. Is there anyone local who can help me with this? I vaguely remember meeting someone at a get-together who said they were the Hawaii rep for Fenix.

Let me ask around.  I vague recall a local Fenix rep was an instructor with LIFE and used to see him at the gun show.  I can't remember right now.

Contact the seller.  Fenix offers a 5 year warranty on most models.  From what I read, the serial number of the light determines which service center you have to send it to so you can get warranty repairs.

Shipping to the repair center is not covered by the warranty, but return shipping is covered.

If the cost of a replacement switch is close to the shipping cost, maybe a DIY replacement is cheaper?

Calling/emailing the seller could help you work out the best course of action.

Hey Tom - The guy that I was thinking about moved away a couple of years ago.  Sorry.  Hope you are able to get the light fixed through Fenix.

LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY
Open Air Brands LLC, dba Fenix Lighting US, guarantees all Fenix products purchased from retailers to be made of first-class materials and therefore provides a lifetime warranty against any defects in material and workmanship.
Excluded from warranty coverage is any damage to the exterior deemed reasonable wear and tear such as scratches and/or fading of color. In addition, the warranty does not apply to damage caused by abnormal or unreasonable use of any of the components. This includes use of unapproved batteries in Fenix products (see user manuals).

You may get lucky and it could be as simple as the retaining ring for the clicky switch could be working loose. Snap ring pliers to tighten.
I looked up the e11 switch size and I have an extra 16mm clicky unit from another brand you can have, the fenix switch looks a little narrower and taller though so don't get your hopes too high. Worth a try though, cuz fenix gonna make u pay for shipping n parts. Probably not worthwhile to pay. By the time u pay for parts n shipping u can get a better newer light.

You can get a lumintop tool aa or ultratac a1 for like 15-20 bucks. They have 600 lumens with lithium ion aa size batteries called 14500. u can still use regular alkaline aa batteries if u choose. I believe the e11 had 100 lumens while the newer lights have 200-250ish with alkalines. So even if u don't use lithium you get double the lumens and longer battery life in lower modes due to better efficiency.

Btw basic mechanical switches have maybe 50k click life expectancy depending on amperage.

Below is an exploded view of the switch assembly and how to tighten retaining ring

Unfortunately, your E11 is a discontinued model that is outside of the free replacement warranty period. There are no longer parts available for this unit, so, I will not be able to assist you with a repair. I can, however, offer you a 30% discount code for the purchase of a new light from our site http://www.fenixlighting.com

Sigh.

This is why I don't buy nice things.

Tom-
I agree with jaynick that you should kiss it goodbye and get something newer.
I EDC a small light similar to ultrtac. I use rechargeable lion batteries in all my lights due to disappointing Duracell leakages.
