Having been involved in the direct US efforts to help fight the drug problems there and in other countries, I call BULLSHIT on your dishonest accusations.

The PI has massive corruption problems,

The US has a vested interest in stopping drug production and distribution before it reaches the US.

We've invested millions in funding and resources as well as provided professional law enforcement and military training and assistance.

If the problem persists, it is NOT for lack of our efforts.  It's a problem of fighting an uphill battle with some members of the PI law enforcement actively working against those efforts.

But, in your narrow view, their drug problem is our fault because we didn't solve it for them?

I am so glad you posted the above.

According to your personal experience, you are aware of the mass corruption problem the Philippines has had for decades, due to the crime syndicates and drug lords that operate within their nation.  However, if you have known this for some time, the US has to have also known about this situation as well.  Consequently, the facts you shared bolsters my accusation that not only the US did not strategically help the Philippines combat the runaway crime in their country, but also contributed to it.

What strategic ally would willingly provide, "millions of funding and resources", as quoted by you, to a government they know would line their own pockets; thereby, allowing the law and order of the Philippines to deteriorate?  The US IS NOT STUPID!

Despite knowing that their money was not being used to better the situation in the Philippines, the US has nevertheless continued to provide financial aid to the corrupt government of the Philippines all these years because ALL THEY CARED ABOUT WAS THEIR MILITARY AGREEMENTS WITH THE PHILIPPINES THAT ALLOWED THEM TO CONTINUE THEIR HEGEMONIC STRATEGY TO CONTAIN CHINA!

The US does not care in the least of the social and economic well-being of the Filipinos and that is why Duterte has decided to look for support from other countries that understands what the Philippines really needs.

You have no idea what you are talking about.  Your opinions are biased and uninformed.

Go get a job actually doing the things you love to criticize and THEN maybe you'll have the inside skinny on what's actually happening.

The gov'ts of both countries are not going to divulge the details of their efforts for security reasons -- obviously.  Therefore, your understanding of the problems is merely surface-level.

I could tell you stories, but I can't.

You bitch about the US "interfering" in other countries, then turn right around and bitch they are not providing enough, or the right kind of, aid.  You can't seem to argue from a consistent position.  Maybe you just like to bitch about ANYTHING the US does?

You're voicing an opinion based on hindsight.

Would you prefer the US let the PI collapse under the weight of their crime lords' activities?  Do you believe the problem would have been just as bad had the US done nothing to help?

I guess the PI could have  became another Haiti, ruled over by War Lords and drug gangs.  I guess that would have been better than "EMPERIALISM!!!!!!!!!!      "

With the level of corruption and crime syndicates practically running everything, there is nothing anyone can do within the current system in the Philippines to improve their predicament.  Duterte and the means he goes about cleaning-up his country is not the most civilized way, but it has proven very effective in cleaning up the streets and bringing back a sense of stability within the country.

The US was well-aware of the unstable nature of the Philippines domestically and, outside of aiding the destruction of ISIS, did nothing to help clean up the drug problem for years.  It definitely appeared to Philippine patriots like Duterte that all the US cared was to be able to use the Philippines for its own geopolitical military strategy against China.

In his goals to ensure the national security of the Philippines, Duterte knows his approach to reclaiming his country from the clutches of organized crime, though bloody, will work given time.  However, he also knows that with the VFA, he has NO CONTROL of what American military maneuvers happens within his country's boundaries in the South China Sea.  Should there be a shooting incident between the US and Chinese forces, the US WILL USE the pretext of defending the Philippines for whatever action they take.  Whatever conflict should happen after that would mean the destruction and death of Filipinos from a resulting war they never had a say or wanted.

That is why Duterte ultimately said, "enough is enough" and terminated the VFA with them.
You are justifying racism, murder and genocide. I do not care what that baby tyrant thinks is right. There is no justification for it. Period. And you approve! That is disgusting.

Duterte will never be able to ensure national security as long as he is as corrupt as those he claims need to be rounded up and shot without a trial and due process. That is all BS lies. He doesn’t need to do that. He justifies it and you believe his BS. That is your prerogative but it is ignorant IMHO.He does it because he wants to. No one is holding a gun to his head making him do it. That’s pure BS and I think you know it. But that is just MHO. All he is doing is getting rid of his competition and his rivals. And you are falling for it.

This has to be the most disgusting conversation I have ever had with anyone here on this forum.

You still have not shared how the US has assisted in crushing the crime syndicates and drug lords in the Philippines.  You say the US helped, but why has the situation only improved after Duterte took power?

Why can't you enlighten me with your knowledge?  Is such information pertaining to the eradication of drugs in the Philippines really TOP SECRET?

Once more, please don't twist my contentions regarding the US on this thread.  Domestically, it was you who claimed that the US has done much to address the rampant corruption, crime syndicates, and drug lords in the Philippines.  I contended that the US has not done so and should do more if they want to make those claims.

You seem obtuse.  I already told you.

You can't fix another country's drug problems when a number of those in positions to help are actively working against those objectives in exchange for drug money.  It's like trying to get an obese man to lose weight while his wife keeps sneaking him hamburgers and milkshakes.  Is it your fault you failed?

Let's put it this way.  I worked with the Coast Guard, FBI, CIA, NCIS, Navy, Marines, Army Air Force and government and non-government civilians in that job -- funded by DHS.  The sources and methods are classified.  If the information and sources were compromised, people could literally wind up dead because of it.

So, yeah.  It's more serious than you seem to comprehend.

If what you say is true, why does the US continually flushes tax payer money in aid down the toilet to the Philippines?

If the situation is more serious then I or anyone can comprehend and your acknowledgement of the various US federal organization that are aware of the runaway drug problem in the Philippines, what's stopping the US from directly eliminating those crime syndicates and drug lords from the chess board?

The US did help Duterte address their ISIS problem; why does it not commit its armed assets to the same direct involvement?  I am sure Duterte would not mind if the US took those domestic enemies of the Philippines out.

Lame.

We PARTNER with Pacific Rim countries.  We have mutual interests, so we provide resources and training as well as operational support when requested.

You want the US to start military operations inside the sovereign borders of a dozen MORE countries?

There's a reason JIATF-West is under a Coast Guard commander.  We want to avoid the appearance that the US military is operating in those countries.  These are law enforcement operations, albeit international in nature.

You have no idea the breadth nor depth of the types of support we provide.  Do some research into JIATF-West as a starting point.  The multifaceted mission is too complicated for me to even begin to attempt to spoon feed you.

Here is an article from the Brookings Institute documenting how a country such as the PI can reduce and control the amount of violence and corruption in their country without resorting to the same violence/murder/genocide that they claim they are trying to get rid of.

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/organized-criminals-wont-fade-away/

Being a racist and declaring war on your own people and murdering them by committing the same violent corruption Duterte claims he is trying to prevent is never the answer. Some good suggestions are in this article.

Here a report by Amnesty International regarding the Extrajudicial (Illegal or without legal authority) Executions in the PI by Duterte.

https://www.amnestyusa.org/files/philippines_ejk_report_v19_final_0.pdf

I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind here. But I would like to suggest to those here that support racism/murder/genocide by Duterte and that his way is the best and only way that there are other ways to accomplish the same goals without extrajudicial executions and violence and corruption that ONLY Duterte is bringing to his country.

Here is the website from the UNODC United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. They offer help in the form of a program ratified by 170 countries (including the PI) to help fight organized crime in their countries.

https://www.unodc.org/toc/en/whatsbeingdone.html

“Assistance: developing countries need assistance in building their capacity to counter these threats. An important tool that can help with this is the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which has been ratified by 170 parties and provides a universal legal framework to help identify, deter and dismantle organized criminal groups. In October 2012 the sixth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime will be held in Vienna. That biennial series of meetings brings together Governments from across the world to promote and review the execution of the Convention in order to ensure better implementation in tackling this international issue. At a practical level, UNODC helps strengthen the capacity of States to track and prevent money-laundering with training and technical assistance for following the money trail. These measures can help cut off the profits of crime.”

There is absolutely no good reason to commit against your own people the same violent, corrupted, murderous, genocidal, racist, extrajudicial executions as the criminal evil you want to reduce in your country. Period.

Well, continuing to drop US tax payer money to corrupt government officials knowing it will not be used to combat the drug problem in the Philippines YEAR-after-YEAR is the definition of INSANITY.
