I don't understand this ammo shortage going on.  Why do people need to buy so much ammo?  Ranges will close down if things get worse.  I don't see the logistics being affected to manufacture ammo.  This is a temporary situation and things will be back to normal when the virus starts to clear.  Is it because you see other people doing it so you have to do it too?

But then again people are hoarding TP and even worse, water.

Yup.  F them.  They have a considerable history of doing that.  I personally remember some of the nonsense that they ran back in the run of 2012-2013 timeframe.  Will NEVER shop with them.

It's the mentality where you see others buying it up and want to "get yours".  Then there's the urge to try to "do something" to prepare for a situation that is really so fluid and lots of unknowns, but everyone "knows" that things will get worse.

Federal/CCI/Speer put out a statement saying they're going to increase production and to do so, will need to increase ammo prices.

Nobody that is real gun people buy from "Cheaper than dirt".

You only, may appreciate this but every time I went in to REI,  I always asked if they sold
hunting or fishing licenses.

SEC had 9mm AE for 199/case at the gun show.  Today they had a pallet of the same stuff on the floor, it went up to $269/case.  I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

I think I got my fishing licenses from Outdoor Emporium.  That place was awesome for outdoor stuff.  Especially fishing gear.

Wow!!!  :o

I bought some just before the show.  A friend that works there mentioned that the next shipment was gonna be more expensive due to the increase in price from the distributor, but I didn't expect that big of a jump.  I thought maybe $220-240 range.

TBH, everyone who owns a gun should have enough ammo already.  Since there is no industry standard, I would say as long as you have enough ammo to load every mag that you have twice, then you're G2G.  Just throwing that # out there (a few hundred rounds).  Add in if SHTF, ranges will be closed, so it's not like you can go there anyways.  It would be purely for self defense or hunting.

Do people expect to be in a gun fight like in A-Stan or Iraq?  Even if you did use you're firearm for self defense, HPD would show up and arrest you for 2 days.  At best case scenario, they release you pending investigation and confiscate that gun (single) anyways.  The question is, would they take just the gun used, or all your guns and ammo?

People stocking up after a mass shooting is more understandable, because prices will rise.  So they want to buy cheap while they can or some BS law passes.  But for CV, a hurricane, or other natural disaster, no need stock up on more.  Let alone pay such a higher mark up.  Just wait.

My nephew texted me last night. He said he was needing some 5.56 in order to continue practice. I told him not to, but he did anyway. He bought 1,000 rounds of steel cased 5.56 for, wait for it, wait for it some more, just wait some more, ready?, okay, here goes he paid $365 including shipping.  :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

I looked and 2 hours before he purchased the same ammo on the same site it was priced at $250/1,000. I didn’t look the day before but I suspect it was probably around $200. Let the gouging begin.

It is also a good idea to have 5 to 10 rounds of common calibers of guns you don't own.  In a SHTF situation, that may help you get a weapon that you do have a lots of rounds for.

Can you elaborate?

How does having 5-10 rds of ammo you can't use = acquiring a weapon for a different caliber?

Simple, your weapon may get damaged beyond repair.  While scavenging you come across a discarded weapon or find one in a house you break into.  You have ammo for it, which may enable you to hijack someone else's weapon that you do have a lot of ammo for.  Remember this is during an anarchy situation where every man for himself.

I bought ammo to stock up before prices went up.  SEC had  9mm for about 249-269 a case for most of last year.  About 3-4 weeks ago the prices dropped to 199.  When I asked about the gun show pricing about a week ago they told me that the prices would most likely go up because their cost went up, so I bought my supply.  I would have bought more but I got a great deal on 1700 rounds of .38 so now I'm set for a while.

This time, I'm hanging on to the ammo, not profiteering as in years past.
