Honolulu PD permit/reg. by appointment only
« on: March 19, 2020, 09:08:11 AM »
FWIW, my brother went to HPD this morning and found out that they will be implementing appointment only gun permit/reg come Monday. In response to additional questions, the douchebags advised him to check HPD's social media for more information. We are really taking cracks this year. I encourage everyone to hit the activism scene!

It is understandable in a pandemic situation to limit the number of people standing in line. That said the current registration scheme is clearly designed to discourage people from owning firearms, and now it just got a whole lot more discouraging.
The problem governments are trying to solve is the existence of your freedom.

Call them to ask and let us know what they say.

I just left after picking up my permit. Only 5 people allowed inside at a time. As of 9:45, next available appt was 12:00 this afternoon. According to the guy taking appts, the line this morning wrapped around toward Ward Ave. He is also taking appts for tomorrow and next week, ahead of time.

I bet the career criminal recidivists are bent by having to make an appointment to register their guns... thus far they've been able to mosey in whenever they found to time to take a break from victimizing some innocent citizen out of sight of our protectors Ballard and Bros.

HPD could easily do this appointment thing by phone. But they want to harass you and have you walk in person to make an appointment.  This means 4 trips instead of 3 to HPD for a handgun.

Which also means one more public appearance, exposing both you and the officers to a potential risk of infection unnecessarily.

Maybe they don't care?

and after the pandemic is over, this restrictive system will stay in place because, "it worked so well..."

it will morph into a 3-month lead time on getting an appointment, followed by the 2-week waiting period.  Karl Roads' wet dream.

ya think?  you could take bets on this one.

Honestly, given the choice between taking half a day to stand in line versus a half hour scheduled appointment, I'm okay with the new system.  What they need to account for is the additional delay that might cause applicants and staff accordingly during heavier than usual demand.  If there's more than a 3 day delay for appointments, that needs to be fixed.

There's nothing saying they can't do both:  walk-in AND appointments.  I'm sure there will be times there are no appointments scheduled when the officers can assist walk-ins.

There were proposals to allow permitting at satellite city halls, which I'm sure never came true because the crazy long lines stopped.    Maybe time to revisit that idea?

I would be more OK with it if you can call in make an appt.  The fact that I will have to drive there, park and then leave is a waste of effort.

But still walkins are the best.  Sometimes I dont know when I will buy a gun.

One thing that drives me crazy
is you guys accept it as normal to ask
Democrats( union member cops) for
permission to own guns!

My dear departed uncle had some really
good friends in Nicaragua.

Of course I'd never violate any Constitutional
Federal, state or local law.

I'd certainly never do anything to support
the present Hawaii tyranny.  Much like
Kuleana I consider our present government  to be
illicit. I don't recognize single party states.
I have a very different non-racial
solution, but we need to cut the Democrat party
off and let them be in their Choo Choo
sinking in the ocean.

The thing that drives many of us crazy
is how you pretend that there is an option
other than following the laws or trying to
change the laws via legislative means.

If you think constantly ragging on people
who follow gun laws to avoid the legal,
financial and employment consequences
of breaking them is somehow good advice,
you're misguided.

This has been brought up to you before.  I'm
wondering why you think it's any different
mentioning now.

Your refusal to recognize legitimate, albeit
constrictive, authority reminds me of the
fabulous "Sovereign Citizen" movement.
Don't like the rules? Make believe they somehow
don't apply to you, because "Sovereign".

Nah no one accepts anything here. We simply do not have the support to do what’s needed to be done which is massive disobedience. The one good thing coming out of the TMT protest is they have unveiled just how pathetic and weak this state is. If we could get that kind of activism and support on our side we would change gun laws here over night.

For whatever reason the vast majority of Hawaii residents seem to be ok with relying on someone else to provide their protection.

How are they going to do registration by appointment only if you are required to register within 5 days of purchase?

Instead of phone reservations, HPD's firearms section  could use one of the online reservation systems like  Open Table or Yelp. It's not like anyone can book a restaurant table now.
