makes it really difficult to buy a gun you didn't plan on buying, now you need an appointment to register and their phone number doesn't work

For the 723-3191 appointment #, what is the extension #?
When I hit 0 for the operator assistance, I get a message the operator is busy, a goodbye and then it hangs up on me

What about handguns? Do we need to make an appointment for each of the three steps? 1. Apply for permit to acquire. 2. Pick up permit to acquire. 3. Register gun.

Thanks, Tim. Sure hope this phone reservation thing is only temporary.

Then again, the in-person walk-up system ain't perfect. Back in in early 2013, we got there one morning about 0530. More than 20 people were already in line. This was when all firearms transactions were handled at the counter on the Ewa side of the first floor. By the time we finished about 1000, the line went all the way around the corner to Hotel Street. And that was despite the addition of cops who previously worked in the firearms section and were pulled back in to help.

Try this number:

723-3266 that should get you in touch with a live yo-yo in firearms...

I just checked on a cost of a flight.
Assuming I was paid $20 per hour
It would be cheaper to fly to Idaho, do a private sale
arrange shipping, and fly back than EFF with the
Hawaii Democrat party government, their police, and do a sale in Hawaii.
I used a M14 clone as an example for the comparison.

I could not find anything on their social media. What about permit pickups?

I took off of work yesterday to go down before they closed and was surprised at the line! There was an officer at the door taking down names for appointments. Had to make appointment for today at 1445. Came back today, applied and found out that for pickup you also need to make an appointment. Called to make appointment for pickup, and the line was busy and the recording told me to call back later... :-\ frustrating...

The reason this is all implemented is because someone complained to the mayor that they were violating the 6ft coronavirus guideline. I was told this by the officer taking down appointments at the door. The asian woman cop said that people were complaining that the others in line were too close to each other and that they need to put up tape...

A simpler solution would have been to implement a kiosk check-in and video status display like the Social Security office in Kapolei.  I walked in, signed up on the kiosk, waited until my number was announced and appeared on the display.  Very efficient and fast  In and out in about 15 minutes with only a few people ahead of me.

People waiting for their number to be called can wait outside if the numbers called are audible and visible there.  Any 6ft distance violations would be voluntary.

How is waiting in line to make an appointment different than waiting in line to apply/pickup/register?

I can pick up my long gun permit this coming Wednesday. I tried calling 20+ times but nothing. Can I go in person to make an appointment? What if I call 100+ more times and I still cannot make an appointment and I miss my deadline of picking up my long gun permit?

How is waiting in line to make an appointment different than waiting in line to apply/pickup/register?

For starters, it's one more trip you have to make back to the station. I dont know about you, but some of us have other things to do than wait in these lines. Also, when was the last time you saw a line go around the block and down to Ward? Seems like it's taking a lot longer than it used to, doesnt it? Or maybe you would drive down to the station from wherever it is you live, see that ridiculous line and just say, "I'll just come back another day." And drive all the way back home, only to drive back another day, because it's no thing to wait in these lines. All the time in the world, probably. Btw, the people in these said lines aren't all smiling faces. So I think others share my frustration, as you can clearly see on other posts on this thread.

Now, I'm gonna assume you dont have a problem with calling in to make an appointment to pick up your permit, because sitting waiting on the phone while you hear elevator music for hours is just fine for you, even though the old way of popping your head to quickly pick your permit up and head out was slightly easier than the current procedure. But hey, at least there isn't a line for that...

I feel like that was a troll question...

If anyone is making their first purchase right now, they are too late.  I moved back home to Hawaii 2 years ago from Australia to take care of my parents.  I built up my guns and ammo supply and got what I needed LONG ago.  I just wanted an M1A SOCOM 2 CQB and a Glock 19 gen5 MOS recently, so I get them now before they try to pass the draconian gun laws in July.  At least I got what I needed long ago before this BS.

called that number, doesn't work
called HPD firearms division, unavailable

we are screwed again!!!!!!!!!   :grrr:  :grrr:  :grrr:  :grrr:  :grrr:

Didnt someone earlier post the HRS showing specifically that HPD cannot deny permits or halt registration in times of Emergency? Sounds like they need to get sued and it should be brought up the next time HPD wants to testify in favor of anti-2A legislation.

Wow, I guess I was really lucky to get through so fast. One thing though, the first day to pick up my permit is next week Thursday but he said it's a holiday and they will be closed.

They arent denying permits, just limiting how many can apply due to a pandemic. A legal team looked at it and its legal what theyre doing.
