Not anymore. When I was there yesterday they said you need an appointment even just to apply for a permit, even if it is just a renewal or a handgun permit.

Yah. They are getting ridiculous. There is a 5 day period within which time you have to register any firearm purchase, but now you have to make an appointment and it sounds like they are not even answering the phones to make new appointments. At least on Friday they weren’t answering. Some guys in line called non stop for 1.5+ hours and nobody even got through.

At that point you are trying to follow law but they are not answer the phone so what are you to do!

The actual permit to acquire triplicate form was never available online, only at the window.

You Oahu HPD people deal with a different "Spray and pray" cop than we do
in our HPD, ours can't hit anything except civilians..
This is the political section, so perhaps we cold discuss ways to tell
these guys to fuck off?

I wonder if this could actually be turned into an improved system like they did with the DMV?

At that point you are trying to follow law but they are not answer the phone so what are you to do!

Document your attempts and if they ever try to bang you for being outside the 5 days then you can show you were trying.

Made an appointment this morning, took 21 tries.

40+ calls and still no one answered.

Try calling HA reservations.  Tried several times per hour till 2230 last week and got BZ signals.  Finally phone rang and got a recording and was holding for 17 minutes before talking to an agent.  Following day they put up a page for cancellations only.  Their res line is still hard to get into.
