I’ll just add that if your rifle has the standard “Buckhorn” type rear sight, part of your problem might be the fact that these style of rear sights SUCK! But that is only my opinion. I would suggest getting a rear peep type sight to replace the buckhorn style if your rifle has one. Most of the rifles these days has been drilled and tapped for the rear peep sights.

Depends on your use.  They do suck for long range precision shooting.  They are awesome for fast acquisition short range and rapid fire shooting.

Everything has it's pros and cons. And everything depends on intended use.

I'd opine a 30-30 falls into the latter category.   Short range fast shooting thumper.

I own a Winchester 94 in 30-30. I reload my own and don’t load up to or near max. I don’t see that sort of drop between 50 and 100 yards. While I have not tried it from 100-200 yards, I would expect that sort of drop between those distances. The cartridge is great out to 100 yards and getting iffy out to 200. JMHO

I have the adjustable semi buckhorn. It is hard to use at 100 yards I can barely see the target at 100 yds. I was definitely looking at a skinner peep sight

When shooting irons, in my experience, it's better to see the sight picture, as opposed to a particular target.  Get a blacked out circular target that you can get a consistent sight picture on.  Of course front sight in crystal clear focus is key.  Also natural point of aim.
