National Lockdown - take with a grain of salt
« on: April 01, 2020, 05:53:40 PM »
Please take this with a grain of salt

One of the contractors in our department moved up to Texas.

He sent us a text today that he heard a national lockdown may be announced on Friday and would be for 2 weeks.  So he is starting to stock up now before the announcement causes a run on supplies.

Note that Texas is one of the states with little or no restrictions so a lockdown will be shock

I’m thinking a national lockdown will not change much here but I’m wondering if it will cause another round of panic buying in Hawaii

Supposedly it was from someone in DHS

I've been watching the news all day, every day.  It's obvious we are going to be in a worse mess before this gets better.  Even Trump warned we are in for a very bad next two weeks.  Foreshadowing the lockdown order?

Don't wait.  I went to Costco today.  Only "Limit 1" items I bought were milk and canned chicken.  Stocked up on eggs, butter, bread, canned & fresh milk, OTC meds, etc.  Even bought canned veggies and canned peaches.

I have about a dozen cases of bottled water, too.  They raised the limit to 5 on that, so I added 2 to the stockpile.

We've got at least 3 weeks of food before we even look at the emergency supplies, for 3 adults and a 2 year old.

I'm not saying there is or is not a national lockdown coming.  Whether there is or not, everyone should be gathering up what they need just in case.

BTW, Costco has signs saying the don't expect TP, paper towels and many other high-demand items to be in stock anytime soon.

Follow your instincts.  If you're smart, you'll be fine.

Plenty TP in Hilo.   At Cost U Less the shelves were full and hardly anybody was buying it.  Way more were buying rice.  I took a picture but can't even upload a 775kb jpg photo.  Server tells me file size is too big.

No big deal, it will be the same as here.  Can still go out to grab groceries.

Not like Wuhan lock down.  No can leave at all and soldiers drop off food if you're lucky.

Maybe.  Maybe not.

If the results of the lockdown through next week keep seeing an increase in infections, they may cancel all "essential trip" exceptions.  That might mean the NG sets up distribution centers, and soldiers go door-to-door delivering rations of food.

Military can wear NBC PPE to avoid infection while leaving staple goods at people's front doors.

If the current guidance isn't working, prepare for more strict isolation orders.

Like I said, start getting ready now.  Tomorrow might be too late.

How many NODs will go missing I wonder...

Wife went shopping in Hilo.
Cost-U-less was closed. Most all other stores were limiting access.
Those open had been cleared out of most essentials.
We prep for human stupidity, so no big deal.
What really scares me is these people vote.

What time did she go to C-U-Less?  They are open 0800 to 1930.  0800 to 0900 is kupuna hour.
