Bird Hunting Without a Dog

Anyone here hunt without a dog?  In the past I’ve hunted on the Big Island with friends who had dogs, but I live on Oahu and my dog is only good for chasing lizards and cockroaches.

We never did hunt with dog. We just spent a lot of time searching for the birds.... assuming we actually hit any.
My next door neighbor has a great hunting dog but it takes time and patience to train. There is some luck involved with bird dogs. Some are just born with the knack for it. Others, not so much.
What, Me Worry?

On Oahu, bird hunting without a dog is called hiking.  You gotta either get a dog, or make friends with someone who has a dog.

I went bird hunting with some friends on Oahu, without a dog.  Was a long hiking trip and we heard a few birds but couldn't find them.  A pheasant flew off right in front of me but flew over the valley.

On the way back to the car, the game wardens came up to us and asked how we did.  They were watching us from a hill most of the time and said there was choke birds running away from us the whole time.  But we didn't see any.

"You boys didn't come here for the hunting, did you?"

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
