There is an enormous price difference between a house and the average American's typical pile of consumer crap. It is not like they can take their Escalade and smartphone money and go buy a condo.

How many people went bankrupt for medical bills or got stuck with insane amounts of debt over a worthless degree in the 1970s? Once the drug war started and NAFTA destroyed their jobs, the only way many of them could keep their heads above water is black market activity. This combined with a corrupt court system designed to subsidize the private prison industry drove up the prison population to levels that passed the Soviet gulags. Families were destroyed and left only gang members as role models. Law enforcement with a long history of human rights abuses and racial profiling leave them with a simmering discontent which explodes from time to time.

What Flapp is doing when he compares his experience with theirs is saying that his culture is superior and ignoring the entire body of sociological and anthropological evidence of state-sponsored oppression and injustice based on skin color that continues to this day.

Superior?

I grew up dirt poor, but with 2 adults in the household working and 3 kids to raise, we always had a roof over our heads, plenty of food in our tummies, and good enough clothes to wear to school and church if we didn't hit a growth spurt too frequently.

I didn't know color TVs existed until I was visiting other people's homes.  My home didn't have one until my grandmother had a used one given to her -- a floor console version, probably in the 26" diagonal range -- AFTER I was in college!

I'm saying it's not easy no matter what decade you grow up in.  You just have to make smart decisions, exercise some discipline in what you spend your money on, and try to make yourself capable of that NEXT job that brings in more money.  Nothing has really changed except for the lifestyle we are all accustomed to.

Superior?

Hardly.

The following is a quote from a current US army infantryman and popular firearms enthusiast that many might know for his videos on YouTube.

Quote
Sadly, I honestly think that idea of United States is over. We are too far apart from each other. There is nothing left to compromise on and we have nothing left to give away anymore...
I think the best solution is to negotiate peaceful and coordinated exits from the Union and form new one(s). Those "exits" don't have to follow state lines.
It's obvious that most people in big cities have different vision of the country than folks from rural and small communities...forcing people by force to coexist who don't share any common values anymore won't work...

I thought I was the only one who saw the signs of the end of the American empire, but it seems others in the US see the same writing on the wall.

Maybe I'm dense but what is the definition of justice to these protesters?
Summary execution? Torture? Elimination of police?
The knee guy was arrested promptly. Now what?
Somebody enlighten me please.

That is the foundation for all of your arguments. Some of us have worked hard to make this country our home.

No there isn’t. You either blew a down payment on a house/condo to buy that Escalade or you blew your DTI when you took out a loan for that Escalade. They suck with money, period.

My wife was making 17/hr and I’m a server at a restaurant and we have a kid. I bought a condo last year. How did I do that?

Warren Buffet was bragging a few years ago that he didn't own a single LCD flat panel TV in order to illustrate how it's all about choices.  He'd rather take the money he saved by not having the latest television tech and invest it.

If you can't make good choices about who gets your money, the likely result will be, "Someone besides you!"

Its simply people making bad financial choices

Look up how many people won the lottery, blew it all,  and still ended up broke or worse.

That's just wonderful.
I caught a few minutes of Stephen Colbert the other night and he was seriously urging people to "be their own president".
I interpret that statement to mean that people should do whatever they feel like doing, such as rioting and looting.
When you have major television personalities advocating anarchy to millions of viewers, how does that help?

See that all the time.  Folks online saying they live paycheck to paycheck, but they want to live lavish lifestyles and don't want to change that.  Priorities.  I am sick of paying for other people's bad decisions.

Yeah, I am sure there are folks out there that genuinely need the help.  However, I see so many, or too many, taking advantage of the hard work put in by others.

Some were also throwing frozen water bottles at the Cops.   :wtf:

It's not THAT cold out.  That took planning, time and intent.
