I'm here primarily to talk about guns, shooting, etc.  I sometimes end up getting sucked into other conversations, particularly political, when I see stuff that are straight up

Hopefully we can get more threads on guns and shooting now that the range is back open.

When I was in high school I did more than just talk about guns.  I sold a .303 British Lee Enfield, a 7MM Mauser, a 30-06, a 20 and 16 gauge shotgun and two .22LR rifles to other students.  And you know what?  Nothing happened.  In the 1960s we were buying or selling guns from or to high schoolers and adults and nobody cared.

Feel free to start all the firearms topics you want to talk about.   :shaka:

Guns is my favorite subject!

I am slowly getting back into a more normal lifestyle where I am reloading and shooting regularly. I have been very busy reloading and trying to get my reserves of ammo back to where it was pre move. I have loaded pretty much every 357Mag, 38SPL, 9mm and 45 casing I have. Somewhere during my move I lost all of my 223/5.56 and 300 BLK cases. So I have to wait for some cases to arrive before I can start reloading for these cartridges. My nephew who lives in Phoenix area has some of his once fired 9mm and 223 cases for me as well. I have not started yet on all my obsolete and specialty cartridges yet. So much to do and not enough time.

There is a very nice indoor range close to me. I shot there for the first time last week. I shot my S&W Model 25-1. The problem is I couldn’t find the powder I usually use for this cartridge so I went with a couple of old standbys (Bullseye and Unique). And without thinking, I loaded them pretty hot. So of course I developed a blood blister between my thumb and fore finger. Back to shooting 22’s for me for a little while. I’m a lightweight!

The indoor range near me charges $20 a session. No time limit. I bring my own guns, ammo and targets. They have 3 different levels of membership and I’ll join this week. They offer a lot of value for the membership fee. Part of which includes a CCW class. So when things finally settle down I’ll take the class and get my CCW. If anyone wants to see what they offer here is their website: https://www.insightshootingcenter.com/

I have visited all the LGS here and in Prescott. All of them are old and have lots of junk tables, everything dollar tables and obsolete ammo and stuff. I love to dig for bargains. Most of the tactical stuff is non existent as you would expect during this time. Ammo prices are good when they just get a shipment but does go up as they get low. There are tons of consignment guns around! Lots of old and obsolete and surplus stuff out here! Prices are just okay to a little high. Reloading supplies are somewhat plentiful. In other words mostly high demand stuff is gone but everything else is still plentiful. Primers and certain powders are hard to find. But most other powders are plentiful so one can substitute easily. And if you are willing to compromise it seems match primers are still available where regular primers are not.

I went to Sportsman’s Warehouse for the first time. A whole wall full of guns! Top to bottom and probably 75’ to 100’ long! And guns in display cases. Supplies and ammo galore. Higher prices but still a lot in stock and a lot of popular items not in stock. And people are buying! It was crowded when I was there. I am going to the first gun show since Covid-19 in Phoenix in July. My nephew is going with me and he says it is huge. I may go both days if I can’t make the whole show in one day. One ticket is good for both days. I want to go to Cabela’s/Bass Pro Shops for the first time while I am in Phoenix. And the first gun show since Covid-19 is coming to Prescott Valley in August. I don’t know how big or small this one is going to be? Then the next show is in Phoenix in September. My schedule is filling up.

People here in Hawaii don't have a clue what
real freedom is.
Enjoy!
I miss the large gun shows on the mainland.

I love going to Sportsman's Warehouse and Bass Pro. No disrespect to our local LGS but the difference is like shopping for food at 7-11 or Safeway.

Wow, 20 bucks for an indoor range where I can shoot my own ammo?
Too bad that brand-x place that is 2 minutes from my house doesn't allow that.
What, Me Worry?

I would agree.  I think sometimes it’s the “you only know what you know” syndrome.  Not having served, I consider myself lucky to have been able to shoot as many things as I have.

I have to admit I had forgotten what freedom is. What I lost. It went away so slowly.

One thing I do remember are large gun shows. I remember them fondly at the Pomona County Fairgrounds in LA. I also remember the gun shows at the OC fairgrounds. At one point the OC gun show was larger than the LA gun show due to the regulations between the 2 counties. I knew it was getting bad back then I just didn’t realize how bad it was still going to get. I could never go back to CA. Only to visit family. I’m trying to convince the rest of my family to leave. Before their house values go down and the housing market tanks. They won’t listen.

Sportsman’s Warehouse was quite a shock to me. Its like having the catalog with everything in front of me except I can reach out and look, touch and feel before I buy. They have everything RCBS, Hornady, Lyman, Sierra, Speer, etc. has for sale right there on the shelves. Aisles and aisles and aisles. It was literally overwhelming. I never even looked at guns. And there was more camo than I have ever seen.

That is one reason (not the main reason, tho) why I never went there to shoot. I wanted to go there with a gun I knew they didn’t have ammo for just to see if they would turn me away or let me shoot my reloads?

I wonder how Covid-19 has hurt their business?

Same here. I am looking forward to the fully automatic experience.

Howdy,
Freedom for us is moving to Texas.
We have enough acreage that we can shoot off the back porch.
We just got ATF OK and got our Suppressor.
Shot that from the back porch.
Makes a 9mm almost bearable without protection.
22 are super fun and relatvely quiet.
Plus hunting is legal with license on our property.

Faintly remember going to some show out near Corona.  Demonstration shooting (by Miculek?) and lot of good stuff.  Got to try a Magna-ported Ruger Super Blackhawk, etc.

Imagine Calif politicians would had cardiac arrest at the thought of such a show now.

I sometimes shoot my AR15 and 22LR off my second story deck on the Big Island.
Your suppressor must be defective.  The ones in all the movies only go poof poof. ;D
I shot a suppressed 22LR pistol with standard velocity rounds and it was louder than
I expected it to be. Louder than subsonic ammo unsuppressed.
