Why? In the mainland there are a lot of churches with preachers into guns. Especially when i was living in Idaho.

They are called cults... Ever been to Hayden lake?

Sorry... Had to do it... I know.... Bad first post. Lol

Churches are supposed to be non-profit organizations.  How can they be a for profit firearms retail shop and still maintain that?

Non profits can be for profit. One of the best paying jobs I had was working for a non profit.
Does anyone know if they are open tomorrow, was thinking of stopping by.

1) A gun store is a separate entity

2) Allocation of profits

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

No, not profits cannot be engaged in business primarily for profit. Their primary goal must be stated in their mission statement (education, charity, etc.). Long story short, they can engage in unrelated business for profit which is subject to tax but risk losing their nonprofit status.

Yes, separate entities and separate reporting. Not really allocation of profits as they are separate entities, but you got the idea. Actually churches are generally exempt from reporting anything. Ehhh, there's actually lots of tax issues to discuss but the church gun store is probably operated like a thrift store (think Goodwill) so it wouldn't actually be a separate for profit entity.

You being employed by a non-profit and a non-profit organization making a profit are two different things entirely.

LOL. Since owning performance auto shops since 1975 it is the same thing. I just leave the opinionated customers alone. As far as sales staff that is arrogent well good help is hard to find.  Sometimes it is the extension of the owner or managers.  Retail is tough.  Nationwide sales is worse.  Sometimes when new shops open up they are nice and as you go the customers take a toll when the staff gets fustrated. We just try to do our best and do what we do best.

I love these post.  Opinions and self inflated facts are great when you do not even have to work at a gun store on a dally basis. I am not sure if most of the folks that post on these threads ever worked at gun shop before. Well here is a bit of overinflated trivia.  It sucks, because you have to deal with opinionated customer who always think they are right. How do I know, I only lasted one year at gun shop in the mainland and dam near lost my love for firearms after dealing with all kind of attitudes.  My hat goes off to Daniel, Carter, Brian, Kanoa, Tony, and Travis.  All of these guys have to deal with us face to face on daily basis.  We even get to trash talk about them on the inter webs as well. It's not right. Folks, if we do not appreciate what we have it might disappear in the future.  Just support your local gun shops and get out and shoot. I am really getting tired of all the bashing.  Wheres has the aloha gone?

Its like that in any occupation where you work with customers on a daily basis.  Was like that when i worked at longs.  Still like that when i worked at Petco, my friend at oceanic says the same thing.  I guess the aloha died with the hawaiians.  (just kidding)

Oh and about the non profit, i worded that one wrong.  Sorry for the confusion.

I hope you are not referring to me when you say bashing.

I stated my opinion because to me the whole thing is sketchy (gifting of Magnum to a church).  For the record, I have not worked at a firearms shop.  For the record I have an uncle who was a pastor (since retired) of a church.  Said uncle was not rolling in the dough like some of the local church leaders.  So when I get that little red light going off, it's for a reason.

Second, I have and continue to patronize the local shops.  This patronage is however based on factors other than solely of cost.  When I was young it was all about bottom line.  Now it's more about service and quality of product.  Magnum in particular (yes here is the bashing back2back has a deserved reputation due to its previous owner).  This is not a reflection of those working there, but if the experience is not good, then why would we go back?  Well in my case I won't.  There is only one shop on the island that I will not go to and that's them.  It's from my personal observations of what went on and that from my close friends' personal experiences.

Firearms shops are shops.  It's like any other business and customer service is a huge component of them surviving.

Hi GZire

My very first experience with the previous owner of Magnum was a bad one and after that first experience, I only went back there to use the range.  I had good interactions with Brian when he was there and returned there solely because of him.

When I heard that Magnum was under new management, I had to check it out to see what changes were happening -- I am glad I did.  The new staff there are very personable and I saw that the new management seemed to be really trying to change things around.

I see that a lot of the other gun shops are also getting better and I try to visit and buy some stuff from them also.  Overall, the improvement of the gun stores in Oahu are good for Hawaii shooting sports in general.

I'm not saying that you should change your mind but you might want to give Honolulu Firearms and Range a chance.

I don't care if the shop owner is a weirdo or a dick. Just don't be an expensive dick.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

I will think about it.  I'm still having difficulty figuring the whole gifting of the store to the church.
