Write to Ige to Veto HB1902 and 3054
« on: July 10, 2020, 11:27:42 AM »
They're most likely going to pass the floor vote today.  Write to Ige to VETO both.

HB1902 is the magazine limit for rifles, the other is about notifying HPD if you permanently leave HI about all your guns.

,,,establishes a "gun violence and violent crime commission"...

and then goes on to ban unserialized home-built firearms as an afterthought.

One less thing to worry about I suppose. I actually picked up a bit of a variety and am glad to have a few more months to see what I prefer.

well at least you're all set for next years legislative repeat rerun.

can you imagine, state-wide, how many folks ran out and bought their costco-sized lifetime supply of 30-rd mags?  that's a lot of mags that are gonna be grandfathered next year, perhaps a bazillion, uncountable quantities.  similar to what happened in Kalifornia recently.

It's obvious to us gun owners that these "feel good/do nothing" laws create more demand, and generate more sales -- sales of guns, ammo and accessories.

We know the intended goals of these laws are fewer guns and less capable ones, but their actions result in the exact opposite effect.  Every time Obama even looked like he was going to mention "Common sense gun control," sales went through the roof.

Are they that ignorant, or are they just plain stupid?   :wtf:

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Hawaii is like living in one big home owner's association with tiny power-tripping people thinking they have a lot of power to tell everyone what to do.   You dont 3d print a firearm because you want a well made reliably functioning firearm.  You print one because the little tyrannical people say you cant and have no way to stop you.

I wouldn't want a 3D printed firearm.

I agree, no one would want to print this 9mm firearm that is 100% made without existing firearm parts.  You even rifle the barrel from a metal tube using $100 in tools.

It's crazy to think about criminals walking around with 3d printed submachine guns and the answer our legislature has is to harass the people who still follow the laws.

folks need to write to Ige to VETO HB2744

https://governor.hawaii.gov/contact-us/comments-on-legislation/
limited to 250 characters, sorta like a long tweet, so you don't have to dream up a lot of text to write.

start off with "Please VETO HB2744..."

which will instantly criminalize all law-abiding AR owners for possessing an unregistered firearm.  since the AR upper receiver will be considered a firearm on its' own merits, requiring serialization, registration, etc.
The upper, by itself.  If you don't believe me, read the verbiage yourself:
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2020/bills/HB2744_SD2_PROPOSED_.HTM

"Firearm receiver" means the part of a firearm that provides housing for the firearm's internal components, including a hammer, bolt, breechblock, action, or firing mechanism.

Obviously your lower is already a duly registered firearm receiver, but now your upper, on its' own, is also a firearm receiver: it houses the bolt.  has nothing to do with the lower.  when this bill gets signed into law, who already has registered their AR upper with HPD?  nobody.  If you try to go there today to register your upper because you're that type of guy, ahead of the curve for new laws, you'll go home feeling not-so-smart.

this is beyond stupid.  only the fertile warped mind of Karl Rhoads could hatch something this mind-boggling, pull it out of his a$$ at the last minute.  out of the clear blue.  yesterday was a nice day, even.  W.T.F.  sorry, I digress.

or am I wrong?  ???

Did Gov. sign this act into law last month or am I misunderstanding?

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=3054&year=2020

https://governor.hawaii.gov/2020-bills/2020-acts/ (Act 068)

If it is now 'law', how do I notify HPD that my firearms were lost in a boating accident this weekend?  Call them?  Or maybe they have a form I can high tech fax back to them.

(planning to leave here for good in a few months after 38 yrs)

I believe he allowed it to become law without his signature.

I wouldn't tell them squat..... but I am not a lawyer, and wouldn't do anything that is illegal.  Once you leave this state, how can this be enforceable?   Unless their intention is to "unregister" you and destroy all records, screw them.

If someone intents to come back, say 70 years later, its not permanently leaving the state.
