Chaos after the election - in Hawaii?
« on: November 01, 2020, 10:51:33 AM »
I was kind of surprised that two of my coworkers - who have firearms - were getting “ready“ for chaos after the winner is announced.

I rarely watch the news but I can’t see anything happening here no matter who wins.

Anyone else getting “ready” election chaos locally?

(The Mainland is another story.  But even then, if you have some common sense, avoid the protests and a protest march doesn’t go thru your street - it should be generally okay)

I don't think anyone, especially gun owners need to be any more vigilant that we already are.  Violence and chaos in Hawaii is slim compared to what can happen on the mainland.

I can see being a gun owner becoming more difficult, depending who wins the election.  Hawaii has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation and it could get worse.

I actually see more violence and crimes possibly from the results of the lockdowns and restrictions that devastated Hawaii's economy and left the majority of the people jobless with mounting food, rent, and household bills to pay with no relief in sight.

I can see more robberies and property crimes increasing than people getting all bent out of shape because orange man or dementia man won or lost.

Nothing going happen where I live in a remote area of Puna.  Too few to bother with and the few all have guns and are highly territorial.
Happily living in Puna

Not here, but I am finishing up packing just in case I have to help family and close friends on the mainland!

Funny how this thread came up. I was cruising youtube bout an hour or 2 ago and this question came up as well.

I chose mainland may have violence but not hear on oahu.

I think we are too diverse to be a die hard extremeist one way or the other.

Tbh. We are screwed who ever wins. But isnt that with all elections?

Yeah, Hawaii hardly generates high excitement and polarization like the mainland elections.  We are a dominant democrat party state and sadly its the same old, same old.

And the presidential elections hold small significance.  Hawaii doesn't make a dent in the outcome either way.

But my opinion is we as gun owners stand to possibly lose a lot if Biden/Harris wins.  This is where my concern lies more so than the slim chance of violence and unrest due to who won or lost.

I can see Susan, David, and Kirk all gleefully rubbing their hands once Biden (If he wins) starts his gun control agenda.

Thanks all

I was worried that I was “out of the loop” and need to be more connected.

Back to being oblivious......  :-)

Regarding the above:
My coworker thinks there be chaos in Seattle and Portland if Trump wins.  That seems very plausible in the NW

I must be old.  Could you explain?  If lived in the nw and had a shop in the downtown area - I would board it up no matter what.  Maybe nothing happens and I lost 1/2 day I’ll never get back.  But maybe I lose my store/building.

Same for hurricane preparedness.   It may make a difference and doesn’t take too long

My guess is there are not enough instigators/ANTIFA riot starters to cover all the major cities at once.  Notice how they went from city to city, showing up in large vans and rental trucks full of riot-starting gear and signs?  The instigators drove to actually peaceful protests and made them violent.

Once those people got arrested and charged in Federal court, a lot of that slowed.  Trump's DOJ deputized the state police in WA and bypassed the "let 'em all go" Liberal DAs and mayors in Seattle and Portland.

The crap in PA this week is just another loot-fest.  The facts of the shooting are obviously not a race or trigger-happy Cop incident, but any justification to shop without paying is good enough for some places.

The Left's #1 tactic perpetuated by Obama and his ilk is :"Overwhelm the system."  Whether it's rioting, looting, protesting, voter fraud, or any other crime, if too many people do it which overwhelms law enforcement and the judicial system, they normally skate.

We'll see if ANTIFA can radicalize enough instigators to take down more than a couple of cities at once.  If not, I look for a ripple effect as the violence starts in one area and migrates across the US.

Mrs. CMO will be in Portland that weekend.  Even her work is telling them to be safe and if a place is dangerous or danger is coming, to just leave. No need finish up the job.

OR does not share reciprocity with NV.  So she cannot CCW there and isn't allowed to OC for work.  And I'm not a fan of leaving a firearm in a car for hours.

We've watched vids of what to do if she ends up in the crowd while driving or assholes blocking a driveway.

What did the vids say?  If they attack slam the gas?

I don't know what videos he watched, but I subscribe to the "motorcycle gang" dump and drive method.

There was a woman with her kid in an SUV or small cross-over.  I think this was in MD, but not sure.  There was a large gaggle of motorcycle riders surrounding her as she drove.  Not a biker gang -- just a bunch of crotch rocket riders out for a group ride.

When they came to a light, the group started showing off with wheelies and other stunts as they waited on the light.  But, after the light changed, the group was still blocking traffic.  So, the woman honked her horn.

The group started moving, but then one bike in particular started harassing the woman.  Driving in front, brake checking her, getting on her rear bumper .... anything he could think of to piss her off.  At the next light, she stopped, and the group tried circling her again, and the harasser got OFF his bike and started yelling at her through the closed windows.  She hit the gas and ran over a few bikes, and I think she hit the harasser, though he was not too badly injured.

That really escalated things.  The woman was now being pursued by 100 bikes as she tried to speed away.  She called 911 on her phone to report the incident, and then drove to the nearest highway patrol station -- bikers in tow.

Nothing ever happened to her. As long you can say you feared for your life/safety, trying to flee and go to a law enforcement office is a reasonable response.  Having a piece of glass between you and a bunch of bike riders hitting your vehicle with helmets is not a valid argument for sitting still and hoping they go away.

Hawaii is not immune to civil unrest, but in this case we probably do not have much to worry about compared with the mainland. People are definitely scared though. Hopefully that means empty surf on Wed.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

This exactly.  Some people might say you have a big vehicle why are you scared.  Then you tell them there's thin glass and you can't do anything to stop attacks from the sides or rear.  And once they disable your big scary vehicle all you got is a metal tomb.

Many of the vids, the windows were down or doors unlocked.  I told her to keep door locked at all times (which she does anyways) and the windows up.  Don't row it down to try to reason with any road blockers.  There is nothing she can say to get them to move.  Don't honk the horn because that will agitate the morons.  If they want to kid the body of the car, let them.  But once any glass breaks, then that changes everything because now she can be pulled out of the car, or the door unlocked and someone jumps in.
