39.99 a box. Someone posted on their ig comments

The last time I bought 9MM ammo was 124 gr FMJ Blazer Brass at Front Sight in Oct 2019 for $7.25 and I thought that was expensive. But I also used to think paying almost $4 for a box of 20 7MM REM MAG in 1967 was expensive.

Guy at work came back from Young Guns after lunch yesterday with two boxes of 9mm, said he paid $40 a box, limit two boxes. He was going back today for two more boxes to shoot tomorrow. I sold him two boxes for $20 a box, saved him half his $$$ and doubled my $$$.

If you are in need of bullets where else can you get them?  We are kind of stuck in paying what ever LGS is charging.

Now he's going to need a "who has reloading supplies in stock" thread!

True, but now who has small pistol primers in stock? lol

Even reloading is expensive.   The only target or practice shooting I do nowadays is with airguns.  BBs and pellets are still cheap and I have nearly a 100 CO2 Powerlets.   Any shooting I do that burns powder has to hit flesh and blood. In the past 2 weeks I did shoot 3 pigs and 3 mongoose in my backyard.  I use the pigs for dog food.

While you are right in that respect,  I think we as a community SHOULD do what we can to help each other out.  IF we as a community came together to help each other out. It would make it more bearable for a lot of us.  For those who have factory chamberings they at least have the possibility of having a LGS having some in stock. For ppl like me, l HAVE TO reload due to a lot of my chamberings are for wildcat cartridges.  So l dont even have the possibility of walking into a gunshop and finding some 338-408 CT or 30-416 Rigby on the shelf lol.

But if a fellow shooter/hunter is in need and we can help them out then we should. If can, can but if no can, no can! I try to help others if l can in any way l can. Up until now I've GIVEN AWAY over 50K primers and 150# of powder to others in need. I've asked nothing in return other than not to resell what I've given.  I've met great ppl and made great friends in doing so and that is worth its weight in gold.

That being said it's gonna be a rough ride. I hope it gets better asap and hope we stick together and help each other thru these trying times!!

Press on!!!

808Hunta is awesome!  Walks the walk and HELPS!  Super duper generous and super cool guy!

Inspiration for the "pay it forward" thread.  I had wanted to do it for a while, but 808Hunta's generosity spurred me to make it happen.  Which reminds me, need to resurrect that one.  Want to pay forward and honor the generosity 808Hunta extended to me (and others).

Thanks brother! Appreciate the kind words. I just try to do my best to help our hunting and shooting community in these pressing times.

BTW, l still have the Reloder 15 for you lol

Wish you all the best in your reloading endeavors brother 🙏🏾

Been noticing a lot more ammo in stock now.  Just prices still up there.  HGS, WGS, YG all had 9mm and 5.56 and a lot of other calibers i havent seen for a while.

QUIETShooter

I went YG last week, just to see what kinds of handguns they had.  They weren't that busy plus they limit how much people in the store but there was nobody outside.

So maybe that was part of the reason but we had a no rushed discussion of the various handguns they had.  It's amazing that you can have your mind set on one particular gun then change your mind when you get to handle and discuss the other types available.

Anyway, the only 5.56/.223 they had at that time was Federal "Power Shok" 55 grain SP in .223.  One box was $29.95 for 20.

Anyone know how much that ammo was going for pre-Covid ammo shortage?  Also is this considered "good stuff?"  Seems like a rip off price to me but I bought 1 box in thanks for their time discussing handguns.

Plus I like to have different types of ammo of the same caliber instead of just range/bulk ammo.

Those Federal Powershoks aren't considered target ammo.  Most people use them for hunting as they're soft points meant to expand upon impact.  Most range loads are typically full metal jacket (FMJ) that don't need the ability to expand.  I think that price is about par for the times.  Pre-pandemic price would probably been around $20 or just under.  In the calibers that I've used for hunting, they were accurate enough and got the job done.  For 223, if not for hunting, I'd save them for self defense.

Yeah, that's my plan as far as what I would use them for (as defense ammo).  Next time I visit YG I might buy another box (for some reason they only limited me to one box) and shoot some to see how they are.

My son in law and I went shooting 2 weeks ago.  He'd held all the handguns in my safe, and we took the top 6 that he thought he might like to have.

At the range, he ran 2 mags through the 6 guns in order of "most liked" to "least liked".  Turned out that his "most liked" before shooting was his "least liked" (ranked dead last) after shooting.

Even if you think you like a gun when handling it at the gun shop, you never really know until you shoot it.  Of course, if you're one of those guys who buys handguns 2-4 times a year which then get sold in a year or two as UNFIRED so you can afford the next gun on your list, it really doesn't matter if it might have felt good shooting.   :geekdanc:

If you think prices are dropping and supply is catching up to demand, better to buy individual boxes now versus bulk cases.  As prices fall, just buy what you need until you see a good deal on bulk close to pre-Covid prices.

If you're using a full case every month or so, that's different.  I'm talking about buying a case and using it over many months.  You'll save money by waiting to buy larger quantities, even if that means you aren't getting the bulk discount (assuming there is one).

I just recalled what the guy at YG was telling me and I thought I'd share this.  (And I'm not sure if he was just telling me something to hear just to satisfy my curiosity.)

I was asking him how come his ammo shelves are so sparse (he had only 1 type .223 ammo and no 5.56) when I see lots of guys on the internet posting videos of the ammo stores with returning ample stocks of all types of ammo.

He said they repeatedly submit their orders to the suppliers and are relegated to whatever they send.  He said the suppliers tend to supply the big box retailers and the small gun shops get whatever is leftover.

He also said they order firearms also and many times there just isn't any firearms available.

OGC posted 9mm Blazer 115gr.  They selling $30/bx 50 round.  Look like they had plenty.  But I bet it might sell fast
