Been smoking the old stogies for over 20 years. If you are just getting into the "sport", I recommend that you try as many different cigars as you can and keep the label for future reference because its awfully hard to remember the names of the ones you like. Forget what people say about what you should smoke. Everyone's palette is different. I settled on Punch Rothschilds because they are mid-full cigars with a length and ring gauge of 4.5X50 so they are just right for a 45 minute smoke.
Right now, I have more Scotch than guns but I think that will change very soon. My stash includes, The Glenlivit, Ardbeg (Uigeadail & Supernova), Caol Ila, Oban (14 yr and 1993), Scapa, Glenmorangie, Balwinie, Lagavulin (16yr and 1991 Double Matured) and Edradour. Just finished a bottle of a Japan version named Yoko..something. If you are starting off, you don't need something exotic. The Glenlivit is readily available at your local supermarket and, believe it or not, is ranked high among Scotchdrinkers and is reasonably priced.
