Don't worry Trump had a sparkling resume before becoming president!   Much better than Obama....

Yeah, sure, there were territories that were taken under the Doctrine of Manifest Destiny, but not all of it was occupied by Native Americans nor anybody else.
Flapp, you are way smarter than this.  You, with your level of intelligence, knows that the Doctrine of Manifest Destiny is nothing, but imperialism, "American style".

Do we need to dig-up the illegal overthrow and illegal annexation of Hawaii, by who know who, all over again?  I surely hope not.

I reject your premise that the US only used theft and oppression to become great.
True; the US did not only use theft and oppression, on its rise to empire. However, it has orchestrated many illegal invasions and the propping-up, of human rights dictators, to hedge its global power.

Slavery was ended via a civil war among our own people.  Name another country that went to such great and horrible lengths to end slavery and become the defender of civil rights.  Hell, most countries in the world have no protections for individual freedoms AT ALL.
Can't name a few, but, to their credit, the former slave trading empires of Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal all abolished slavery and without the need, of a bloody civil war, like the US did.

Never said Obama was perfect.  But a lot closer to it than Trump.  Who came from money,  perhaps did some unsavory stuff with women.  And had questionable business practices.

You know me and being proved in court, he technically settled the cases so never convicted.  Doesn't mean i can't be wary.  Also got proof for the stuff you said about Obama?

You guys and this recent focus on grammar and vocabulary and spelling.
If you can’t figure out what the poster meant.....
( or is this like heads and focus and in the old days Gong Ho. )

obama's resume- "community organizer" hand picked by a black pastor and given a "wife" and groomed to go up the ladder and eventually became president, because 'reparations"

WOW ! Seriously !
I mean I have arguments against Obama but that would not be one of them, or even a narrative I would start to chase.
But that’s just me.

Obama was trained by Saul Alinksy as a community organizer, but it was Zbigniew Brzezinski who saw the potential of a world leader who wold promise change and then faithfully execute the Bush/Clinton doctrine on a whole new scale. Obama was the first to openly assassinate American citizens and their families, lock up journalists, and turn loose a Middle East terror campaign against Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan as well as expanding in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lefties accuse Trump voters of being racist, but what kind of privilege does Obama have that allows otherwise intelligent liberals to ignore his many crimes against humanity?
Is an armadillo just a tactical opossum?

Obama is a Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

Trump is withdrawing troops from forever wars -- most recently this very week by ordering the withdrawal of "most" US forces from Somalia.

Yeah, I can see how people would think Obama was a better president.      TDS is real.

Flapp, I like your views most of the time but you definitely drank to much of uncle sams kool-aid. Uncle Sam became a SUPER POWER by theft and oppression, if you can’t see that this nation is the most morally bankrupt place on earth I don’t know what else to say. Besides this thread is about Freedom or the lack there of. All 6 of your examples have nothing to do with freedom or the loss of it. And come on, a “mixed-race nobody from Hawaii” I don’t agree with that guy but he does have a pretty impressive life resume.

You accidentally agreed with me.

Obama was not born into a family of wealth and prominence, He was the bastard son of a Socialist mother and an African foreign national who was married to another woman at that time in Africa.

Given his position AT BIRTH, he should have been treated as the bastard child of a single mother.  Remember, he was born in the early 60s.  Not exactly the most "forgiving" of times with respect to societal standards. His formative years were spent in a majority Muslim country.

The fact that he was born without the benefits of professional, well-to-do parents and without a social circle that rivaled the Kennedy family proves my point -- that he was a NOBODY born in Hawaii who was able to take the opportunities this nation offers EVERYONE so he could rise to the top job in the nation.

Obama wasn't born with that resume, nor was he born into a family of others with such resumes.

Thanks!   :geekdanc:

Im going to throw my 2 cents into the mix.
F Obama. May he be relegated to the dust bin of history. He was a fraud IMHO, he continued/increased foreign incursions while being given the Nobel... I mean really. Also one more word on that subject, teleprompter.
When we say the republic is finished, when was the last time this government really functioned as such?  We have most of the world garrisoned, we over throw small countries at whim(or for large corporations(smedly Butler)). At best we are an (corporate?)empire.
Yes we have lost most of the qualities that had bound us together as a nation. We are many dissimilar faiths, different languages, different general world views. Do our differences really bind us?  Opposites attract?  Catchy sayings at best. Looking at what is left of our country, we are not all in this together. We fight each other for anything possible. Xbox or ps5, black white etc, gay straight lgbtxyzqwerty, Republican Democratic, left right, conservative progressive, etc. Mix those together and apply the different mixes to people and very few people see eye to eye. Then throw it on the nightly news and boom. Divide and conquor, frog in pot, pick your analogy.
Who do we blame? Pick one, there are so many different agendas with competing interests. Who is really benefiting?
Anyway the question is are we finished? What we started as was finished long ago. The only constant is change, we can never be what we were. What are we now? Nothing like the founders would have wished.
Where are we going? Doesn't look like anywhere good. I couldn't say where we are going to end up as there are too many variables right now. Good unifying leaders are hard to come by. We do not have statesmen any more, only corporate sponsored (insert descriptor).
>>Point being that our freedom is protected or enshrined in our government, when that fails it will fall to the individual. For this purpose our rights/freedoms were supposed to be guaranteed by gov. Are you really free to do as you like with in reason already? Try take your dog for a walk without a mask.
Just an aside, someone was talking about he civil war, it was about states rights. Lincoln wasn't really too concerned with freeing the slaves, try go reading his stump speeches.

Top 4 reasons for the US Civil War:

https://www.thoughtco.com/top-causes-of-the-civil-war-104532
Sorry, let me rephrase that.
Slavery was not the only reason for the civil was and was not an overwhelming why we entered into it. If you read any school text book, it is generally given as the only reason. It may give some other concerns of the time but puts far too much importance on a single issue.
Every empire has been built on the backs of someone. Egg and omelet analogy I suppose.

Have been watching a lot of history of Egypt dynasties and Roman empire lately.  I keep wondering about whether or not the people during those times knew they were at either a pivotal point, or causing downfall.  I think that only comes out looking back in history.  In our case, while I see things trending into "not great" territory, I'm not of the "Republic is dead" mindset.  That said, there is a pretty significant division in this country and will get worse before it gets any better, even with Biden or Trump.

"I'm not of the "Republic is dead" mindset"
I am.  The Republic as designed died when the
16th and 17th amendements
were passed. A significant amount
of states power was transferred to
the Federal government with taxation
and the Senate originally designed to represent
the states, became useless in that function.
America today is much like Europe was and still is,
a bunch of states ruled by the large cities.
America was originally designed to avoid that.
Today in America big cities rule over their respective states.
Honolulu rules all of Hawaii
Portland rules Oregon
Seattle rules WA state
New York rules all of NY state
and on and on.
The Republic is Dead!
The real division in America is now Rural vs Urban.
Free men vs. Control freaks.
Just my $0.02.
