I'm moving mostly all of my firearms to Texas
« on: December 20, 2020, 08:11:54 AM »
I'm planning to move all of my firearms to my secure storage unit in a free state.  What would be the most, safest, secure way?  I have over a dozen to move out of HI.  I would  probably accompany them on a non-stop flight, or send them to my Godmother to put them in storage.

Of interest when this Chinese virus debacle whimpers out and I can get to Arizona long enough to pick out a house.

Long arms can be sent via USPS legally and safely.
I don't think UPS has changed it's policies on shipping pistols,
but FedEx will ship them. If they are are yours and you are
shipping them to yourself no laws are being broken.
I just list the contents as precision machined parts.
for the insurance.
All my guns are in Idaho with relatives.
Since we can only go hunting on weekends
in Hawaii,  Fed EX is easy and cheap.
I just ship it back before the law is violated.
Besides these days you can't possibly comply
with the law anyways, the system is set up so you can't.
Good luck.
Black powder Colts worked pretty good in the civil war.

PCP rifles and pistols are powerful and can be legally suppressed.
My good friend on Molokai recently took down this buck with his 45 cal PCP at almost 100 yards.  He told me he hardly uses his 30-30 and 30-06 now, especially since the PCP his quiet which makes it good for "gathering" food.

I'm not familiar with a PCP.  I'll use Google it....

The Lewis & Clark expedition used PCP rifles to kill bison.

I remember reading about that.   Airguns when Lewis and Clark were around.   I never would’ve thought that was possible back then

Phazuka,
Beware - a lot of red states are flipping to blue.   Granted that those who flip are unlikely to ever be as bad as Hawaii

My storage unit is in Texas but Missouri is sounding better and better every day.

I'm in the process of doing the same... Using FedEX, have used them before (as well as UPS) without issue. Wondering if there's anyway to unregister my post 94 stuff once they're out of the state.  I'm betting that won't be possible. :grrr:

They probably didn't ask the right question.  How to unregister guns from the system vs taking all of your information out of the system.

Will I need to write a letter to HPD of my plans to move these firearms out of the state?

Yep.  $250 fine per firearm if they leave the state without you notifying them.

New change to HRS 134 as of Sept.

Sounds like the schemes I read about California looking for ways to tax people leaving the state.
If it moves, tax it.

The irony of this law change is they are fining people for REMOVING firearms from the state!  That's bass-ackwards.  They should be subsidizing anyone who "takes guns off Hawaii's streets!"

Moving?  Rather than sell your guns to local residents, we'll pay you to take them with you!   :geekdanc:

Enforcement will be a joke and I’d like to see how they do it or attempt to do it.  You’ve sold your property, pulled out all your money from local banks, etc etc and left without telling them. Just don’t ever come back. They gotta be kidding. What a joke! :D
