Primer and powder storage
« on: January 08, 2021, 04:25:35 PM »
I’ve kept both my primer/powder in my garage for years now (sealed in plastic containers).  Wondering how many others also use the garage and if anyone that has stored primers/powder for long periods of time (5+ Years) have noticed any differences (specifically worried if I’ve risked ruining both over time.).  Any info is appreciated   :shaka:

you're welcome...

The garage is not ideal, but I've had powder stored in a garage for years and it still works fine.  I've had one metal can of IMR powder go bad on me and that can was already opened and given to me 30 years ago.

Depends on the temperature fluctuations in your garage throughout the day & day to day/ week to week/ month to month, etc.

"Cool dry place" is the recommended with minimal temperature changes (I'd say 5 degrees, but others may disagree).

I hope you're not storing your primers together with your powder in a metal cabinet . . .

Not exactly a cool place but dry.  I stored the primers with desiccant in sealed plastic containers , and yes they are in separate lockers.   The powder is in unopened containers.
I am looking to see if anyone else has also done this that reloads.  I am hindsight aware that the conditions I left my reloading equipment was less than ideal...
