Oahu, figures.  80% of the state lives there.  Lucky you got KHSC, work with the guys to protect it, there are forces at large to kill it.

Firearms enthusiasts here on the Big Island feel like we are outnumbered by liberal gun haters.  We are fighting like mad just to get our first shooting range built.

Insane, considering all the square miles of open country.  The military has a huge training area, and we do not even have a freaking shooting range???  How about a small chunk of it????

Yes, I am pissed off!

I saw some stuff about the noise testing for that range on the... HDF?  HRA? site. Can't remember.  But I didn't know it was going to be the FIRST range on the Big Island.  That is a little crazy.

Why not contact the folks at Schofield Barracks Rod and Gun Club and see if you could start an affiliate club at Pohakuloa Training Area? Or you could contact the PTA Commander directly or the U.S. Army Garrison HI and about allowing civilians to use PTA ranges. Take a look here and see if there is anything of use, www.srgchawaii.org

According to some news accounts, PTA is sharing facilities with various law enforcement groups for training.  Apparently the Sheriffs had been using a range in a private ranch for the same reason the rest of us have nowhere to shoot.

Think I found the ranges, at least a bunch of them, way up over 6.000' up.  Looks like a 1,000 yard range, pop up, etc.  Remote, but hey.

Sorry, could not figure how to attach a GE .kmz file.

Hi Everyone,

I just acquired several 5-gallon buckets of once-fired military 7.62mm NATO (.308 Winchester) brass.  I’m starting up a vetaran-owned, small business for selling the brass.  I'm located on Oahu, in town.  My goal is to offer to Hawaii enthusiasts better prices than if they were to order online through mainland stores.

I'm trying to get this business off the ground and I'm in the middle of processing the once fired brass that I've acquired.  I'm waiting until I can process at a higher rate before making a post in the classifieds section.  Currently, I'm limited to processing on a smaller scale, but it should be sufficient for individual reloaders.  I'll post more details later when we get up to speed, but you're welcome to contact me with questions in the mean time.

Mahalo nui in advance for all the support and Aloha!

Hello everyone,

I just got in to firearms about a year and a half ago. I am looking to go out for more trigger time. So far I have only been out to Honolulu Firearms and Range to shoot some pistols and my AR. I just bought a rifle target stand for KHSC at the last gun show, and I would like to use it to sight in my rifle. I know that there is a 100 yard maximum range but is there also closer posts to put your target frame such as 25 or 50 yards?

If there are any other newbies that want to go out shooting I would be down to do a meet up. Actually newbies or any one else.

Most of the rifle range has 50yd and 100yd supports. At the far right side of the rifle range there are a few 25yd supports. I belong to a group of old guys that shoot black powder and old military rifles every Sunday morning. If you would like to join us one morning PM me and I'll give you the details.

Midnitebacon, I like this guy already.

Yes, there are 50yd racks for stands, and a couple of 25yd racks on the far right, if you get there early enough.

If you're looking to gain experience and training check out Hawaii Defense Foundation, they're having an open shoot this Saturday at 8am in action bay 1 at KHSC it's $20 and you can have a lot of fun. If you join you'll be eligible for their classes and these guys are great, you'll learn a bunch. There are equipment requirements, holster, mag pouches, etc.

The Hawaii Rifle Association is another great resource. They have monthly fun shoots as well. Both have great instructors many of which are on this forum.

Hope this helps, Welcome!

Thanks edster48! I definitely want to check out the open shoot this Saturday. Do you know if I have to sign up for this open shoot? Are there required equipment for the open shoot? I have a sling for my AR and an OWB holster for my pistol.

Inspector Thank you for the Sunday meeting invitation, I would love to meet up sometime and see some classics in action!
