Welcome, 20.  Where on Maui do you intend to settle down and grow food?  It's possible, but uniquely challenging.  Have you selected a region yet?  I hope you and the wife enjoy Maui. It seems that Maui will love and accept you quickly if you don't look over your shoulder at how things "used to be" on the mainland. There are a lot of changes to adjust to, but the best days of summer from the PNW can be found all year round upcountry.

We plan to start renting in Kihei then explore from there.
Waikapu might be a more affordable option for us but still close to the beach.
My wife isn't sold on upcountry because of the long drive to the beach, but every place has its pro/con discussion.
Coming from Seattle, we're not too keen on being rained on on the windward side, but otherwise anywhere we can afford is fair game.

Just joined as I'm an hunter and am planning to move to the Big Island soon.  I will be relocating my  businesses there - building musical instruments and scuba equipment.  As a hunter I eat what I kill, have total respect for the aina, and volunteer with conservation organizations.  I understand there's some disagreement between some hunters and the efforts to stop the pigs, goats and sheep from damaging the native ecosystem.  I've seen the native ecosystem severely damaged by invasive exotics here - I hunt iguanas and lionfish here and have served them to many of my neighbors and visitors to our islands (Florida Keys).  Hope to meet some like minded hunters on this forum.

Yeah, new member here. Went to the Great Gun Show today at the Blaisdell and met Ed(from here). Told me to get on in here and introduce myself so here I am. BTW I picked up a S&W Performance Center 686 6" Competitor while I was there and some ammo for it and my Kimber 1911 .45acp. Totally enjoyed myself. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Howzit guys, been a member for a week now.  I'm new to the firearm community and I appreciate all the insight and support this forum provides.

Complete my hunter ed classes in September.  Thank you to all the volunteers that make it possible! 

Purchased my first handgun last week.  If you've guessed a VP9, then you are pretty awesome.

Anyways, in this day of the government taking every opportunity to take away our constitutional rights, I felt it was time to exercise my 2a rights and support the 2a community.

Hope everyone has a great week!  I'll probably be at Koko Head for the very first time on Sat.

I spoke too soon.  HPD Firearms are  on Friday in observance of Good Friday.  That was the first day for me to pick up my permit, which means my first visit to Koko Head will have to be the following Sat.
