HAWAII MADE THE LIST!!

Got to wonder about a few of those, considering the inner cities they have.   Hordes of gibsmedats would come boiling out into the "safe" areas.

Would the hordes be able to navigate to the safe zones without cell service? The CHAZ/CHOP situations lead me to doubt their skill set while disconnected from the grid.

One of the criteria was a moderate climate.  Our weather seldom climbs or falls into either extreme.

Natural resources was another.  Plenty of water if we use catchments or can continue to pump from aquifers.

Food?  How long can we live on pineapple, banana, and coconuts?  Hawaiians fed themselves pretty well before commercial sources were available.  Again, the weather is a factor -- no long Winters, which allows for almost year-round growing of many crops.

Hawaii has a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.  I'm sure the fact that year has been adjusted 4-5 times since it started at 2020 isn't an indicator that 2045 is going to shift!     We'll have all electric cars recharged via a solar and wind powered grid.   

I can see Hawaii being on the list.  Not only do we have resources, we're also isolated from diseases and attack by those looking for resources.

The biggest detractor in this calculation is whether the people will be motivated to fend for themselves, or wait for the state and local governments to take care of them.

I'm not surprised HI made the list, but
was surprised he showed Honolulu, which is a
nuke target and very crowded.  He did mention Molokai
as a possibility.
But thankfully the rest of the world and indeed even Honolulu
doesn't know the potential of the Big island as a SHTF place.
Small population, lots of ranches, farms, and lots of water.
No need for heat or A/C.
Plus we have access to Whale oil. /s.

Having lived on Molokai for 18 years, Oahu for 40+ and BI for 7, I would give a slight edge to Molokai, just because the population is significantly less than the BI and almost everybody knows each other or a friend or relative of yours.  That in itself is a big plus. Oahu would not be my choice. 

But no need worry, our President, Ly'in Joe Biden going take care us.

You forgot the +.  I already collecting SSA payments.   I will be 71 this year, but still trimming trees on a regular basis for added income.

I think Honolulu and Oahu as a whole would not be a good place to be in a SHTF situation.

I honestly question the reliability, resourcefulness, and general resilience of the average citizen.  The people here look like they will have the "frozen deer in the headlights" mentality and will look at each other and expect others to take charge and take care of them instead of being self reliant.

And it is grossly overpopulated.  There will be no Aloha.  Aloha is for when everything is going hunky dory.  People will be at each other's throats.

I still remember those haunting images on tv during Black Friday events when Walmart had cases of Spam on sale.  The 270 lb braddah fighting off the 102 lb. gramma for the last case.  LOL!  Aloha?  I don't think so.  This was a while back but nothing will change.  Maybe get even worse.

There's too many people on Oahu.  Best to just lock and load and treat everyone like the enemy until you are sure they are not.  Sad to say there will be many sheep that will be slaughtered for being "caught in the headlights....."

A landslide Kam hwy at Kahana and Waiamea would secure my area's population density leaving much habitable land and sea

Oahu will be a death trap.  Once government services and the medical system collapse, that is when the real party begins.

The smart ones will remain in place, hunker down, and watch the carnage.  After the first six months, of the initial shock, it is not necessarily the roving bands of gangs and looters that I am concerned; it is the communicable diseases that will run rampant due to all the thousands unburied bodies of those, who have recently perished.  Since there are no coroners, at that point, society will be lucky if there are people with the foresight to bury the dead.  But where?  Most likely there will be thousands, who will die alone in their homes or near their immediate surroundings.  Many natural water sources will also most likely be contaminated, since there will be some people who will just dump corpses into them.

The only saving grace for those living on Oahu is the fact that most of the capable medical professionals and whatever medical supplies remain are on this island, if they manage to survive past the initial stages, of the collapse.  Those on the neighbor islands will be spared most of the societal violence; however, those gains are offset by not having most of the capable and knowledgeable agricultural and aquaculture human resources located on Oahu that are necessary to ensure long-term food production.  Even crops can be devastated by diseases too.
