the govt shut down the economy and a lot of companies had to sell idle inventory with the indecisiveness of our leaders on reopening - now they are concerned about rental car prices? :grrr:

Supply and demand. Isn't that the American way?  They don't seem concerned about the astronomical rise in ammo and lumber prices.

I despise government and I don't particularly like tourists, but if you were to spend a little more time her, Craigslist is your freind.
You could hire a local to drive you around to where you want to go.  I know lots of people that will chauffeur you
around for $25 per hour plus gas.
Most of us have 4WD and can get you to places you don't even know about.
Buy a car and then sell it at a slight loss when you leave.  Work it out with the seller.
It gets you around the illegality of a local renting their personally owned car.

Let the insurance company buy it.  Leave it alone with the words "Hawaiian natives SUX" written on it, in the Puna district.
Collect the insurance on it as it will be stripped and burned.
I'm sure you guys on the other islands have your "go careful  areas".

There are lots of creative ways to travel in Hawaii.
Internet is your freind.

Aloha.

I should think there are many out-of-work people with cars willing to drive tourists around for $500 a day.
There were lots of them standing in front of Love's Bakery the other day.
What, Me Worry?

Yep.  "They" are concerned about the rental prices because it affects tourist dollars that come into their coffers.

But if they showed concern for ammo prices, then they would be obligated to do something about it.  Which will be a cold day in hell if they ever do that.

Scary how the government now feels they have to step in to see if the prices are justifiable in a nation that is based on capitalism.

But only if they are on the shit end of the stick.

Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

Getting reelected and staying on the gravy train are all that matter to politicians.
They will NEVER see a pay cut.
