HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are warning the public to be vigilant after a woman was robbed at knifepoint in a busy Moiliili parking lot.

It’s the latest in a string of violent crimes across the island.

The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. Monday outside the Long’s Drugs on South King Street.

Police say a 34-year-old woman was in the driver’s seat of her car with the window down when a man walked up from behind and asked for a dollar. When she turned to grab some cash, police said, the man pulled a knife, snatched all of her money and a bag of prescription drugs.

People who frequent the area said that lately lawless behavior seems constant.

“It’s kind of scary sometimes,” said Ken Hong. “Robberies, crimes, random shootings. I’m not surprised anymore.”

According to HPD crime mapping statistics, it’s the second robbery outside the business in less than a week.

Islandwide, Honolulu police responded to 69 robberies between April 17 and May 17. Sixty-one robberies were reported on Oahu in the month prior to that.

But why didn’t she have a big dog? It’s common sense to have a big dog with you at all times...

I shop at that location often.  There's a lot of homeless and other "types" that frequent the area.

It's because of the park next door has a mini tent city, then there's stadium park across the street that has a tent city as well. But Stadium's one seems to be cleared out more often than the baseball fields one.

I didn't read the article.  I was a$$uming it was the one near McKinley.  But sounds like this one may be the University one.  Yeah, that one has some trouble as well.

FOCUS

My parents live in Moiliili since the 60s.  My mom walks a lot and rides the bus because she used to work in downtown.  She catches the bus at 5am.  A few years prior to her retirement, she noticed more crazies and danger.  So I got her OC.  She was very anti 2a her entire life. But now she is seeing the picture.  When I moved out, I left a bb gun behind and she asked me recently if she can have it and show her how to use it.  I had to explain to her that she cannot carry the bb gun.

I never really worked downtown, but have seen the areas like Bishop and Fort St Mall after sunset and the transformation is just  :o

That said, I used to work in downtown Seattle and downtown Honolulu is still rather mild in comparison.

And a bb gun?  She'll shoot their eye out

As our parents get older, life comes full circle. Like how we are the ones who need to take care of them.  So I told my mom this jokingly because she told me the same when I was younger about shooting your eye out.

B4, fort street was usually bad in the evenings. But over the past years, it has started to be bad in the mornings as well.  And now pretty much all day.

Ok.  And then what?

catch and release.....

Exactly.  To think we pay taxes so HPD can tell us to be "vigilant".  For all the wonderful things you do to protect us citizens (sarcasm) don't be surprised one day the "vigilant" becomes VIGILANTES!!!  >:(

Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

This is what pisses me off.  Ballard has the time to push a mag ban, go on TV and have a PC after the 2 cops were killed to push more gun control.  Has the time to show up to the floor vote with 11 other brass. But yet doesn't do anything to keep career criminals behind bars, or approve CCW.

And now HPD has the time to push taser regulation on the sellers, although to their credit, they did state they don't have the resources to have taser registered.  Which was in the OG bill, so it was removed.

I was standing in line to renew my CCW license downtown Seattle
at the court house.  Guy behind me was a sales guy and we struck
up a conversation.
He worked in downtown Seattle and lived in a local suburb.
I worked in So. Seattle but lived 32 miles East of Seattle.
One thing we both agreed on was you don't walk Seattle
streets without a gun.
That was 1995, he was a black guy, and I'm Polish/Scot mix.
As a side note the line to get your CCW renewal was the same as the
one Sex offenders had to use to register.

My office was in the Westlake area.  The office moved around here and there, but in the 2nd to 4th and Pine & Pike.  Was awesome when I could go to Pike's for lunch or pick up food/groceries before heading home.

I went to school in the Pike/Pine and 12th area.  When I went to school, the 18th to high 20s were areas to avoid.  We used to party often in the area and I thought it was ok.  It wasn't like Compton or First Hill area in Tacoma, but it definitely had Boyz in the Hood zones.
