Anyone bring their young ones to Koko Head even though they’re not able to shoot yet?  Want to teach and expose  my young one to range safety through mental reps.

How young are you talking about?

I’ve brought my child (a couple years younger than yours) twice because he wanted to see what I do at the range, and to have the wife try some shooting.  The rso’s were ok with it as long as he did not handle any firearms (obviously).  I did have eye and ear pro on him and we went to the silhouette side and rifle side and we kept him behind the firing line while the wife and I took turns at the bench.

Big takeaways, children are very observant and just by watching he got basic understanding of keeping a muzzle down range and always having eye and ear pro while shooting.  The proof was one day at home, he set up a “shooting bench” for his bolt action nerf rifle using a kids work bench and a foot stool to sit on. He even came to ask me for his ear muffs and safety goggles so he can shoot targets at his gun range .  When He was done with the setup it was exactly like koko head with the nerf rifle facing down range and some Ammo on the table and a target cardboard box “down range”.   My plan is to instill firearm safety from a young age so it will be natural when they are old enough to handle a firearm.

Same scenario.  100% eyes on since it’s a family outing...with ear & eye pro.

Teaching safe habits is good.
I like to let kids be kids too though.
To me, having fun at home with toy guns or air guns is equally important.

if they enjoy the hobby, they will understand that guns are not evil things, as portrayed on tv shows, movies or news reports.

Sounds like he might be ready for air rifles and such.

Kids who have an interest in something are so much easier to shop for around holidays and birthdays!

Have you purchased your RSO vest yet?

I started my kids on nerf guns at home and with kids archery first.

Archery at cub scouts and at the gun show DLRN station were good exposure to weapon safety rules and range safety rules.

While I enjoy the time at the KHSC, I didn't think it was necessary to bring them to KHSC unless they were there ready to shoot 22LR.

I usually "RSO" for everyone in my small party/group, so the less people I have to look over, the better for everyone attending.

That said, I have been bringing my son to the range since he was 9 and has been helping me with RSO duties for the people in my party.

To the OP, I think it depends on your kid’s maturity at 6-7 yr old and whether he or she will be an asset or a liability at the range.

Every now and then I see idiots who show up at the range to see what's going on without hearing protection (nothing against you, Shooooots, just being a grouch).  The bad part is they sometimes have kids in tow but the smarter ones usually have their hands covering their ears--the more self conscious (or "too cool") ones try to stick it out, usually not too long.

I used to keep extra packs of earplugs in my kit; now I don't bother with that--with all the noobs on the range I'm busy enough keeping an eye on them while trying to concentrate on shooting.

Yeah Mac--it's always about me!

The macho and "trying to be cool" noobs are the most dangerous noobs on the range.

My opinion, of course.  I felt I needed to add this.
