The traffic code is a completely separate branch of our laws.  Most infractions are civil in nature and are NOT crimes, whereas some, like reckless driving and OVWI, are crimes in most states.

Dont u know that a private citizen can take a person to court for stopping in a no stopping zone. And in no way is a citation issued by hpd. Then if the citizen wins, they get the penalty funds in their bank account.

Criminal = guilty.

Civili = liable.

Traffic court is its own animal.  If the judge agrees you are GUILTY of a traffic infraction, you are ordinarily fined, and sometimes sentenced to community service or traffic school.  You can have your driving privileges suspended or totally revoked.  It's rare you'd ever be thrown in prison for anything short of repeated DUI infractions, vehicular assault or vehicular homicide.

Traffic is different because it is the STATE pressing charges, not another private party.  Yet, the penalties are nearly the same as civil court.
