Thanks for the video.  Very helpful.  One more project to add to my list of things to do.
The Supreme Court has ruled that you, as an individual, have no right to protection by the police. Their only obligation is to protect "society".

I've always wondered if one could get a similar (albeit probably less dramatic) effect simply by layering different colors of paper.  Assuming I ever make it back to the range, I'll give that a try.  Or maybe I can do it in the living room, with a pellet gun or Colibri!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I first tried it with a pellet gun to see if it works and it did.

Pretty cool!

I wonder if Saran Wrap or Glad Wrap would work instead of the tape... just stapled around the edges?

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.

^ Nah.  I've got enough half-finished projects around the house already. And two that have been 3/4 finished for about a year.

Besides, I'm a World Class Olimpick Champion Cheapskate anyhow and I don't wanna buy any Saran® wrap.   Wanna see my pot-metal medal?

You know my motto:

Buy it cheap.

Make it do.

Use it up.

Do without.

Been making DIY shoot-n-see targets for years...

Mr. Farknocker's method is basically how it's done. But for those who are cheap and don't want to go through all the effort?  "Recycle" colored party plates (the disposable plastic ones work best) and brush on tempera paint*.

*It's the kind of paint everyone used in grade school and it comes in liquid or powder form (around $3-4).

Round styrofoam or plastic lunch plates, first spray with florescent yellow, allow to dry and second coat with black. Add a orange sticker for center.

Regular spray paint would melt the styrofoam. You'd need to use waterbased paint from an art supply store (not cheap). Also, styrofoam tends to break off in chunks.

Pretty cool!

You could, but plastic wrap doesn't work well. After the first few rounds (if you've got any sort of grouping), it'll start to come apart no matter how tight you make it.

Lots of different ways to do it. They just vary in the amount of time it takes to fabricate and expense. You gotta decide what you have at your disposal and the amount of work you are willing to do. Using saran wrap might work but if you find it difficult to saran wrap your leftovers, consider how hard it is to uniformally cover a plate or piece of paper. Water based paints may or may not work depending on the surface you are using as well as the paint.  Whatever paint you use, make sure it sticks to the surface and sticks uniformly. There's also set up and takedown times that need to be considered---putting a roll of tape in a drawer versus washing out paint brushes, etc. Then there's the apology factor...apologizing to your wife for stealing all of her party plates just so you can put holes in them and your kid for using up all of her Tempera paint.

One more thing to add... Spray paint over the holes when the target gets too cluttered and you are good to go for another round without changing out the targets.

On a side note, I buy the dirty bird packs of 100 for like 62 bucks (shipping included).

Where do you buy the dirty bird packs of 100 for like 62 bucks (shipping included)?

Either way, it seems cheaper just to buy them rather then taking the time and effort to go down to a office supply store (wouldn't be so bad if traffic here wasn't such a bitch to get through, we have the second worst traffic in the nation!  Gas costing damn near 5 bucks now adays has gotta be taken into account if your trying to save money),  tape up the card stock (which seems like its gonna cost $, I'm sure they are not giving it away or the tape), fight more traffic to get to home depot or where ever sells spray paint, buy a few cans, then get gloves so your fingers don't get paint on them and then spray paint a few layers on to the laminated paper.  Forgot to mention that you still have to buy or make the target which is more $ and time.

I was too cheap to spend $25 to buy a pack of shoot-n-see targets so i made my own using scrap colored paper, strapping tape and a can of black spray paint. Took about three minutes just to make one. My shooting sucked but the targets turned out pretty nice on the first try. Anybody make their own or am I the only cheap guy on the forum?  ;D

thanks...great idea! with buying the tape, paper, and red dot target pasters, it is still cheaper (cost-effective)
