Clearance Letter
« on: July 15, 2021, 02:13:00 PM »
I need a clearance letter stating I am no longer adversely affected by the addiction, abuse, dependence, mental disease, disorder or defect.  This was a behavorial issue I had in 1991 in high school.  My primary care physician will not do it, so I am trying to find another but can't find one.  Has anyone had to provide this letter, it must be from a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist.  Let me know.  Thank you.

There is an office called Beyond Mental Health in town.  They can write you a clearance letter following an exam.  Their website is:

Last I knew the cost of the visit was $200. The Doc is very pro 2A and very anti Kaiser.

I thought the letter could be any family physician, not specifically a psychologist or psychiatrist. They are probably making up the rules as they go again.

The trick is to find a Doc that is not a p*ssy and will put their signature on a paper. Easier said than done.

From pukas initial post it sounds like they told him specifically a psychologist or psychiatrist .

Does any one know what the time frame is to turn in the clearance letter.  The last day for me to pick up the permit is the 19th, I'll get the letter ending of afternoon, not sure if I will be able to make it in time.  Would I have to apply again for a PTA?

Basically, HPD has 20 days from the time you submit the application to issue or deny a permit.  As long as you turn in the letter before the 20 days are up, they should have time to approve the application and issue the permit.  If they issue the permit on the 19th day, you better pick it up immediately, or the permit may be canceled.

You have 10 days after it's issued to use it.

The only legal time limits, according to HRS §134-2  Permits to acquire, are:

1.  no permit shall be issued to an applicant earlier than fourteen calendar days after the date of the application;
2.  provided that a permit shall be issued or the application denied before the twentieth day from the date of application.
3.  Permits issued to acquire any pistol or revolver shall be void unless used within ten days after the date of issue.

Why are you asking the government for permission?
Keep in mind in socialist Germany it was legal to
kill certain kinds of people and nobody said a thing.

Totally unrelated.

He asked a technical question about the timeframe for processing applications.  That's all I posted.

Regurgitating what's in the HRS is not "asking permission".

Also, to acquire a firearm without applying for a permit is a crime.  If you are convicted of a felony, they can prohibit you from ever owning guns again.  if you have a job that requires a security clearance, a bond, or involves public safety in any way, you will likely lose that job.

There are consequences associated with failing to comply with existing law.  Pick and choose your battles wisely.

If HPD notified you that you need to obtain a Docs OK, contact them back and tell them you will be bringing a clearance letter when you pick up your PTA. They don't expect most folks to go that next step and there is a good chance your PTA will go in a round filing cabinet before you show for pickup and you will have to start from square one again.

Also,  you need to bring the doctor's letter every time you go to HPD to register. A friend of mine had to get one to get his pta long gun and had to bring it again and again every time he went to register his dad and uncles riffles that they gave to him. HPD said they don't keep a copy for their records but somehow their records show that certain individuals need doctors clearance.

Correction,  every time you get another pta, not registration,  you'll need to bring doctor's documentation again. My bad.

get from HPD that it needs to a psychologist.  get that in writing, not just someone down there saying that.

My how convenient for HPD that they are more than willing to keep records with details meant to deny applications, while they are unwilling to keep documents with details that are meant to allow applicants to move forward in the process. I just shake my head at this nonsense.

It's their record keeping. Everytime he went to get another permit for a pistol,  he basically had to start over again. He asked why their files don't show the last 2 permits( long gun and pistol) he got that he showed document and they just said they don't keep it.
