I bought a pellet smoker!
« on: July 22, 2021, 09:07:32 PM »
I've always been a pretty die hard wood and coal guy, a buddy at work mentioned his neighbor wanted to sell his barely used Pit Boss and the price was right so I figured wtf it's 2021. I always enjoyed tending to my fire while enjoying some frosty beverages but due to some lifestyle changes, drinking all day just isn't gonna work anymore and frankly I don't think It would be as enjoyable without alchoholic motivation ::). Does anybody here have any advice for a newb like myself? I'm particularly wondering about smoke tubes(pros/cons). As with anything relating to BBQ, I've found that the consensus is all over the board (what's considered must do's by some are never do's by others) and I'm somewhat certain that this post and any info gained from it will turn out to be subjective.

I'm open to any advice even if it's contradictory, or if you other wood guys want to bash me for being a traitor that's fine too... I'm  mostly just excited about my purchase and haven't posted in a while so I figured I'd start a conversation.   :shake: let's see how long it'll take for the thread to break down into an argument :shake:

NICE! Nothing wrong with pellet smokers! Biggest advice I can give you is…..
1. Keep pellets in a Home Depot or Lowe’s bucket with a top. Humid here and your pellets will be useless if left in the bag.
2. KEEP IT CLEAN! remove pellets from the hopper and auger. If left in the auger you’ll be chipping away at concrete. A lot of info on this can be found on you tube.
3 Low and slow is the way to go….don’t rush it. Once again YouTube is your friend.
4. Use external electronic  thermometers, they are more accurate both in meat and oven temps.
5. You tube,!  :D
I have a vertical pit boss vertical and a Bradley smoker. I’d anyone is gonna be made fun of is me. Good luck….👍🏻
To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.  Thomas Paine.

No man can get rich in politics unless he is a crook.  It cannot be done. Harry Truman

Mrgaf makes good points but just have to experiment with it. Figure out what works and what doesn't!
