The DOJ and Officer Byrd - a big disappointment in all counts. (Read 5588 times)

To me anyway.  And probably to the majority of Americans following the story.

It doesn't matter where one stands on the Jan. 6th riot at the capitol.  I think the issue here is the conduct and actions of a police officer using deadly force and the decision of the DOJ to dismiss any criminal charges against him.

Officer Byrd claims he was doing his job.  That he saved lives and countless jobs.  What the hell is he talking about?  There were police officers on both sides of that barricaded door.  Some of them were directly behind Ashlii Babbet.  He could have easily killed a fellow officer or a rioter by his reckless action.

No other police officer used their weapons in trying to subdue and control the rioters.  They used courage and restraint as is expected.  Drawing their weapons was the last resort.

The DOJ and Officer Byrd maintain that the shooting was justified.  If we apply this same logic and assume every officer feels that way, there would have been dozens of rioters shot that day on Jan.6th or hundreds of fanatical looters and violent protestors  during the summer riots that happened in Portland and other cities in 2020.  But no.  The police used extraordinary restraint and courage.

There were other officers with him on that side of the door.  They could have restrained Ashlii.  It's not like he was on his own defending against the hordes.  The fact that this same officer showed lack of responsibility by leaving his service weapon in the restroom on one occasion and showed arrogance that nothing will happen because of it due to his rank and position shows a part of his character that should have drew a red flag.

And the DOJ exonerating him only fuels more distrust in everything associated with government.

I'd like to know how others on this forum feel about this subject.  Please share what you think about Officer Byrd's actions and the DOJ's decision to pardon and condone his shooting of an unarmed rioter.

I am sure Derek Chauvin probably felt the same way ....

The cop was doing his job.   Just like the recent incident in Hawaii.   The race of the person shot or the political beliefs don't matter.   That women shot was warned.   There were government officials  behind that barricade.   That officer was 100% justified.

No shit.  The biggest threat to our health, safety, and welfare is the Democrat infested Federal government.  It practices no oversight of Democrats
or RINOs operating in the Democrat Party's interests.  But won't hesitate to destroy Americans.
I maintain that modern "progressive" Democrats are not Americans.

As much as I despise police, I resist "Monday morning quarter backing" them.  That being said, I don't know if
Democrats are capable of impartial investigations of their members, especially when one of those members is of their
"protected class".

When I concealed carry in WA state. I took that responsibility seriously. I doubt that I would have pulled
my weapon out in the conditions those cops were in.  But then again citizens carrying guns are held to
a higher standard than highly trained professional cops are.  We are not allowed to make mistakes.

This is an interesting edit of some of the videos.
Watch it and as many others of it as you can find. They were plentiful when all the video was up right after.
And draw your own conclusions.
Just a suggestion.

This is the perfect demonstration of how a liberal bubble breeds stupidity and eats their own. He has the "support" of everyone around him so he thinks it is safe to go on TV and tell his moronic story.

The Deep State is literally offering him up on the altar of sacrifice so that they have an excuse to start kicking our doors once someone executes him.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

To be fair Capitol Police leaving Glocks around is hardly unusual.

CPD is outside of the other branches, has no oversight and cannot be FOIA'd.

So, how often do officers leave their guns unattended around the Capitol complex? The answer is unknown because Capitol Police are not required to disclose such incidents.

No.  It's a fact.  If you have a problem with it, deal with the courts/justice system.

In my opinion . . . there was repeated yelling "there's a gun", "he's got a gun". If a person is doing something they should not be doing, and law enforcement is pointing a gun in their direction, they need to stop and back away, comply, or surrender. Respect the guy with the gun and hopefully you won't get shot.

The more I watch that video the more I believe a lot of it was staged in order to provoke an overreaction. The guards walked away from their posts, swat team standing by doing nothing, perfect camera angles, FBI plants in the crowd screaming for blood.

They so desperately want the "American Taliban" to engage in a terrorist act of retribution in order to justify the horrible things that they want to do to us.

Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

This is a twitter post by General Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and NSA. If they really believe this about us then it's more than reasonable to expect the kind of dirty tricks they have specialized in over the past 80 years.

He was always human garbage. I remember watching his speech when he went to DefCon the hacker/ tech convention many many years ago.  He got a lot of boos, but he was there trying to recruit people and it obviously worked. Techlords went from 'All Information Must Be Free' to 'You Aren't Allowed to Say or See That!'

He is scum.

I thought it a little strange that the 3 officers moved away when the swat team arrived.  They were relieved from duty I guess?

Also the swat team didn't immediately replace the officers but kinda hung off the side.  This allowed time for the rioters to break the windows enough for the woman to try to get through.

Find out where they live.  set their cribs on fire , shoot everything  that leaves the structure, and then fade into the night.

Trying to be objective as possible:
I don't know all the details of the case but I could see how under the right set of circumstances the shooting may have been justified. I have seen the video and I would say that the video in and of itself doesn't justify the shooting. However depending on:
-the building layout,
-what Officer Byrd could see and hear,
-what other officers/officials may have been telling him,
-what/who he was protecting
-what other weapons he may have had access to,
The shooting may have been justifiable in my opinion.

I don't know whether I would have shot were I in his position though.

Did Officer Byrd shout out a warning to Ashlee Babbett as she climbed through the barricade?  You know, the usual “stop or I’ll shoot” phrase?

I don't recall hearing him say one in the video but so much background noise I might not be able to hear it if he did.
