I'm pretty sure all men 18-25 ish have to register for the draft; one of those "Just in case laws".
I think this just extends it to females.
I was legally required to register for the draft Vietnam era, at age 18.
I never did as I was in the Military at age 17, it seemed like a waste of my time.
Stupid laws.

You're correct. All males 18 and over must register for the Selective Service program.
My comment was about the factually incorrect statement in the article saying, "The Pentagon will have to start drafting women..."
Registering for the draft and being drafted are two entirely different things.
They should have said, "Both men and women must now register for the draft."
As for the 18-25 age rules, you are supposed to register within 30 days of your 18th birthday. You can register late up until your 26th birthday. After that, you're no longer eligible to register.
The reason that matters is there are certain government benefits that require proof you registered with Selective Service as required, such as:
State based college grants and student loans in 31 states,
Federal Job Training under Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act
Federal (and many state and local) jobs
Up to a 5-year delay of U.S. citizenship proceedings for immigrants
To register after age 25, you have to show evidence that your failure to register was not
willing or
knowing.
