If there were no cameras they would’ve got away clean and he would have been convicted.

And yeah. They’re lucky. He could’ve lit them up.

Kinda cool though. Acquitted for returning fire on outta line cops. Returning fire. Emphasis on returning.
I’m guessing his restraint had a lot to do with his acquittal. Along with all the other messed up crap.

40mm rubber boolits?

I can't imagine that being less than lethal. That's like playing shambattle with a sasquatch.

They make lots of options in 40mm. Some shoot lots of small rubber bullets, some shoot a less lethal round that is probably more comparable to a foam than solid hard rubber, some other options too.

This is why cops always need to be cognizant that people may not recognize that they are cops. I think it is probably a hard thing to think about because a cop knows he is a cop and figures since he can see the other person that the other person can see him. Bad vision, bad lighting, something obstructing the uniform, unmarked cars, etc etc are all things that might lead a person being approached by a cop to not realize he is a cop.

In this case firing from an unmarked van like this is so completely stupid someone should be relieved of command or demoted.

They should be charged with assault and maybe attempted homicide.  That's all on top of the beating and violation of his Constitutionally protected rights.

They never announced they were police before firing.  No lights, no warnings .... just, "Hit 'm! Hit 'em!"

You can't read through the transcript of the audio and not walk away with the feeling they were on a hunting trip, and loving the hell out of it!

If that's how they think enforcing a curfew is supposed to be done, then heads at the top of the government need to roll (figuratively).  The mayor is ultimately responsible, and everyone who thought this was a great way to handle the situation, and those who lied to cover up the whole story, needs to be driving garbage trucks or handing out parking tickets.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I was talking specifically about whoever had the bright idea of driving around in an unmarked vehicle like this, he should be demoted.

The guy who fired the gun and the guy/guys who beat him up should definitely be fired.
