Really? It has held steady at $3.53 at Circle K for the last month at least. But it did go down about 6 cents at Costco.

Got Korean food today, first time in months. The lady was venting. ManuJong (Garlic Stem) was $35 a batch in 2020, in early 2021 it rose to $79.  Her take out plates went from $33 a case to $99. And her 50lbs bag of rice went from $20's to $50's.  These are just the things that she told me. I'm sure everything else also increased at an abnormal rate.  She doesn't see how she or others will be able to stay in business.

I wanted to ask her who she voted for, but kept silent.

I keep a box of microwavable rice at my desk for the times I need extra, cause some places its $3 for extra scoop rice.  So I have a coworker with slight TDS ask me for 1. Usually she does and I tell her $1. But jokely I  told her $5 cause I  know who she voted for and inflation cost went up.  She said "yeah, I know" with a tone of regret.  This is the same lady who said "I hate that man" when referring to Trump.  I often asked her why and she didn't have an answer.

Went to KFC the other day, which is rare, but felt like trying their chicken sandwich.  Ended up getting a pot pie and some chicken fingers and $20+  :o

Tonight at Costco,  the price for ribeye steak caught my eye.  I checked the pics I took on 12/15 as I was shopping for prime rib.

Then, the price for ribeye steaks was $14.19/lb.  Now it's $12.99/lb.

The average package of 4 large  steaks was 5 lbs.  That's $70.95 vs. $64.95 -- a savings of $6 per package.

That's a rather big drop in one month.  Hopefully it's a trend?

Interesting how the prices they choose create the same $XX.95 total price format when using a 5 lb example.

The price of rice keeps going up.   :(

Maybe it's a good thing.  I'm supposed to cut down on it anyway.

I wonder how bad the re-supply problems will get.  I noticed the shelves at the store are getting sparse.

Last week at Times the canned goods sections were quite empty.  Lots of "regular" stuff were gone.

There were only a couple of bags of rice on the shelf.  Packaged noodles (saimin and ramen especially) section had a lot of empty slots.

Rampant inflation and supply problems.  Not good.  At least prices are coming down (a bit....)

I try to take advantage of sales.  Problem I've been having is when I go to buy some to keep the pantry stocked, there's none to buy.  Not sure if people are hoarding or a supply problem.

We made a trade deal to sell china rice among other things like pork and soy (trump).

Wonder if that deal got nixxed so now prices rising.

Met a few guys from canada, they mentioned them requiring truckers to be vaxxed to enter soon. I dont think this would affect our inflation unless we get lots of goods from canada. I know target brand stuff is made there, so they will get screwed.

Trader Joes out of the popular stuff due to supply shortage, per their manager when i asked when the cold brew coffee will be back and waffle cookies.

sam's club ground beef was $4.18 a lb before the end of the year
this monday was $3.98

Check YouTube for some videos about Costco prices. The last two cents digits indicate things. I think .97 means final sales at lowest price and Costco won’t stock this item anymore. I could be wrong. There are other price secret codes.

For the food items, I have been watching several prepper video channels and they are tracking the inflation numbers and logistics issues. Not all price movements indicate the larger overall trend. It’s like stock prices. Goes up and down but you need to see the longer trend and check the news for other factors to try and predict the future.

Either way, when the mainstream news is even telling the average sheeple that there are shortages and logistics issues, you know this is happening and getting worse.

Fortunately I think in HI we are not really seeing the problems as much as many cities on the mainland.

As far as shelves being "sparse", Costco must be doing their year-end inventory.  I had to get my milk from a plastic-wrapped pallet on an upper shelf, because all the other milk of that type where it was normally at floor level was sold.  Luckily, another customer had requested a worker get that milk for them, so the worker was already on a ladder cutting the wrap.

The aisles were all very neatly stocked, and the upper shelves' products were all wrapped up with DNI (Do Not Inventory) signs on most.  I did leave without CoffeeMate creamer, turkey cold cuts, Friskie's cat food, and paper plates.  If they had  those things, they were wrapped and put up where I couldn't see.

There were also noticeable "holes" where items were sold out/moved, which I wasn't shopping for, like large containers of cooking oils.  The bread racks were also not fully stocked, which is unusual. They normally have someone in that area constantly rotating the bread to keep it packed.

Overall, the store looked neater and cleaner than at any other time I can remember.

I'll check the hamburger prices when I go back.  Costco started putting 5 lb bags of 1 lb @ packages of burger in the frozen foods section.  Makes it nice to not have to vacuum pack a mound of beef in 1lb vac&seal bags.  I noticed the price jumped in Dec by almost a buck in less than a week -- last price I remember was $23.95 for the 5 lbs IIRC.  I'll have to check my receipt to be sure.  Curious now if the price is lower.

The Dungeness crab season is off to a hot start after last year's poor crop. I hope prices get down to the $7 lb range or lower.  I miss the old Ranch Market days when they would have live crabs and cook it for you for $2.99 a lb.

Fake news!

The crop report Mr. Beeks delivered to the Mortimer brothers was a forgery.  It was a scam to corner the market on Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice, or FCOJ.

Crops are fine.  Don't buy into the fear mongering designed to drive prices up!
