Assisted Suicide Capsule

I was going to create a joke about buying one of these capsules and having it dropped into the Mauna Loa volcano on the Big Island. It would be like a free ticket for a Space-X ride. Unfortunately, da gift would cost me millions of dollars for all the slimy politicians who deserve a spot on the list. This piece of sarcasm good till next April Fools Day.

I've always been of the opinion that "assisted suicide" is an oxymoron.  It ceases to be "suicide" if you have assistance.

We should revert to calling it what it is:  Euthanasia.

Quote
Euthanasia (from Greek: εὐθανασία 'good death': εὖ, eu 'well, good' + θάνατος, thanatos 'death')
is the practice of intentionally ending life to relieve pain and suffering.

Calling it "suicide" makes it sound like the individual is ending their own life, but in reality, they are asking someone else to end their life for them.  It's euthanasia no matter who made the decision, because the person isn't ending their existence on their own.

It's funny how sane people have the right to commit suicide, but people suffering from mental health problems do not.  Are they not suffering just as the cancer patient?  Why are rights to be decided by society when we judge someone to be unable to choose for themselves?  Society will never choose "assisted suicide" even if they committed murder.  They will be judged incompetent to understand what they did, and condemn them to live in a mental hospital and continue to suffer with their disease/defect.

Maybe ending the torment of living with a severe mental problem is the best solution?  Maybe that would reduce the number of murders and mass shootings?

Just thinking out loud ...

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

So article states that its so the person can be tranquil until they die because it would be towed to a nice spot.  I mean save the money and give the person a pill to crush (cyanide style).  Just make an appointment so someone can be there to dispose of the body quickly.  We don't want a dead body on a bench for 3 hours at a park.  Although on a NYC train, this has happened on a few occasions.

Soylent Green, the movie, shocked audiences with the assisted suicide scene of Edward G. Robinson's character.  People left the theaters saying something like that could never happen in real life.

Yet, here we are.

In the movie, the person volunteering to leave this mortal plain of existence could choose the kinds of images and music they wish to be immersed in as they succumb to the drugs.

That's a more realistic option IMO than wheeling someone to a place that may have the public watching as they take the plunge into the long sleep.

What if someone wishes to die watching their grandchildren play?  Who's going to pay for the kids' therapy sessions?

Or even if you cannot see inside (1 way mirror), just knowing what's going on can cause mental damage to kids.

Seems like their for "rent".
Don't know if I would like to die in some strangers previous death bed.  :-\
They should be up for purchase so it could be like a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation. :D

The new Sarco pods, short for sarcophagus, have been developed by Exit International, a non-profit
firm that has advocated for the legalization of voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Sounds like the pods are not necessarily intended for use by more than one "buyer."  They are 3D printed, so that makes them easy to customize for different customers.

It seems they are going to serve as a multitude of products:  death capsule, body bag, and coffin.

The biodegradable capsule can also detach from the base in order to serve as a coffin.

I assume embalming, cleaning, dressing and make-up will still need doing if you aren't going to be cremated.  Since it's biodegradable, disposal after use should be rather simple.  Just have to rinse out any bio-hazard material and properly dispose of that.

I still think a Soylent Green solution makes more practical sense -- just the dying part, not the recycling!   :shake:
