Hat's off to a great ammunition supplier! :shaka:

Yes, this is a plug for Kaleo.  No, I don't work for this company nor do I know any of them personally.

But I appreciate their service and hope I can continue to utilize their services in the future.  I've done business with them several times in the past and in all dealings everything was done professionally and with great customer service in mind.

I just received my ammo shipment and was pleased with the timely manner of delivery and the product arrived in good condition as usual.

I hope they will continue to provide this wonderful service to us here on Oahu.

The purpose of this thread besides acknowledging their outstanding service is to also encourage other members to utilize their service and for members who are already doing business with them to send them a shout out in appreciation for what they do.

I'm hoping that with positive feedback from us showing our continued support they will continue to do business with us despite obvious supply and shipment issues lately.

Thank you Jennifer!!  Kaleo Arms ROCK!!!!  :shaka:

Same here. I have been using Kaleo Arms for close to 3 years now. They are awesome people with good communication. I have ordered ammo through them through their suppliers and also used their freight forwarding service to buy specialty ammo through other vendors and have Kaleo Arms ship the ammo to Hawaii. They are hands down the best I know of, and I highly recommend them.

I'd also like to utilize their freight forwarding service to buy specialty ammo and have them ship it along with their pallet here.

I plan to contact them and ask them how to go about it.

YES!  They have been awesome.  I've been ordering ammo with them or as a forwarder for many years.  Excellent for ammo that were difficult to find locally (.41 Mag, match .223, etc) and more recently in the ammo shortage stuff that what has been difficult to find locally, but could find via online vendors.

Last I emailed Jen things were getting a LOT more difficult, particularly cost.  Can't even imagine what it's like coordinating the numerous orders, consolidate and ensure the pallet is taken care of on timelines.

As mentioned previously, I for one am willing to pay more to keep the valuable pipeline open/operating, as well as showing Kaleo Arms some love.

I got an email back from Jen.  She said the next shipment will be at the end of January.  She advised to get my order in right after the weekend of the 17th to be safe.  Looks like they will be charging per lb for shipments.  I believe something like $2/lb.  Best to email them to confirm pricing and potential charges.

first step is to email Jen to establish yourself, comms, find out what the timeline is.

this last shipment, the way it worked was, you order the ammo from say, Brownells, or SG Ammo, or Midway, etc, and have it shipped to Kaleo's Crary ND address.  Your billing address is probably Hawaii, your shipping address is North Dakota.  It's on you to make sure the ammo gets there in time for pallet consolidation.  Kaleo then ships the pallet from ND to Hawaii.  When it gets to Hawaii, Kaleo will send you an invoice for their (shipping) fees, you already paid for the ammo.  You pay the Kaleo invoice, then they ship the ammo via UPS brown truck to your house.

Since Kaleo charges their shipping fees based on how many pounds your ammo weighs (nominally $2/lb at this time), it behooves you to find out the shipping weight of your ammo, so that you can guesstimate the total cost of the landed ammo to you, and also so you have a ball-park estimate of what your Kaleo invoice will be, money in your budget you set aside.  Last months order, Kaleo was estimating $30/case.  It came out to less than that for some, I don't know if it came out to more than that for others, so now they're going with $2 per pound.

Last shipment, after watching AmmoSeek daily for a while, I ordered some gucci boutique ammo from Brownells, at $1.42 per round.  With sales tax, and Brownells ground shipping to Crary, I ended up paying Brownells about $1.50 per round.  Had it shipped to Crary with plenty of time to spare.  A case of that ammo weighed 9 lbs.  Might weigh a little more if you take into account packaging, multiple cases into a bigger box.  So now I would factor in $18 per case (200 rds), that would bring the CPR to about $1.59 per round.  For this example, when the ammo lands, I would get an emailed invoice (with link) from Kaleo ballpark about $18 shipping per case of that gucci boutique ammo.  I would pay that invoice (electronically) before the ammo is released for shipment to me.

hope this helps.  or maybe TL/DR.

$2-3, even more, per lb is well worth it. At least for me. Hope that keeps things worth while for Kaleo Arms  :shaka:

to figure out the shipping weight of ammo, I've been using the MidwayUSA site for the source of that information nugget.  if the ammo you're considering from another vendor is listed at Midway, even if out-of-stock, Midway (Larry Potterfield) shows the shipping weight.  Helps to get a handle on the prospective shipping costs of candidate ammo, so you know approximately what the total cost of the ammo you're considering would be, before you make the purchase decision from, say, Target Sports, or LAX Ammo, etc.

You really ought to have a handle on the ammo vendors shipping costs, sales tax, handling fees, and the Kaleo shipping costs, i.e. all the costs, in order to make an informed decision on how to spend your hard-earned money.

for example:
500 rds of 77gr 5.56 weighs about 17 lbs
500 rds of 180gr 10mm Auto weighs about 20 lbs
500rds of 147gr 308 weighs about 30 lbs
200rds of 175gr 308 weighs about 13 lbs

"and so on, and so forth" as the professors used to say with a dismissive wave of the hand.
