Anyone heard from Kaleo Arms recently.  Their website changed and I don’t see any ammo or reference to shipping to Hawaii.  I was looking at possibly ordering some ammo and shipping over.

Ammo should be fully operational. Maybe once every other month a pallet gets shipped to HI

not true.  I have some ammo in-bound via Kaleo.  shipped from Crary ND in May.

I don’t see the ammo tab on their website, I recall seeing it in the past but it looks like it’s gone now

Talked to Jennifer…one more shipment for 2023 shipping in July.  There’s some changes and she’ll need to work out details on how future moves could be arranged.  Hopefully she can continue the service

Hi all!  So we had a pallet that arrived last week, but before that, March was the last pallet.  My brother has been helping me with the pallets that I haven't been on island for.  He decided to get married next year   lol and will probably be moving to the mainland.  So I'm working out the logistics of future pallets.  For now, I know we will ship a pallet in the end of July and probably another in late September or October depending on if the gun show is being held.  Going forward, its looking like it will be quarterly pallets.  Ocean shipping is most economical when it's a dense cube (heavy weight, small dimensions) and because everything else in life has gotten so much more expensive this past year, people across the board are being more conservative with their ammo purchases which we totally understand.  That's actually one of the reasons why we've moved more into gun coatings (Cerakote, gun candy etc).  At any rate, we'll continue in some form... might just be a little more dispersed shipments, but we'll figure something out.   - Jen

@Kai223
see my post on p.1 of this thread, reply #9.  AFAIK, that's still the "modus operandi".  Other than the specific garden-variety ammo that Kaleo brings in for gun shows.

You look at your ammo fort and figure where you are deficient, then you go to ammoseek or other adverts, to find the best price for the specific ammo you want, from a vendor you want to do business with, and place the order and buy the ammo, including the cost of ground shipment to North Dakota.  It pays to shop around.  Most places will also charge Hawaii state sales tax.

as long as the ammo gets delivered to Crary ND before the pallet cut-off date, currently sometime in July (contact Jen for specifics), it will get consolidated with everybody else's order for shipment to Hawaii.  Please take into account that ammo delivery on the mainland from the vendor to Kaleo in ND is via truck (ground shipment), so factor in that delivery time to insure your ammo gets delivered BEFORE the pallet cut-off.  otherwise it'll be the on the next pallet, months later.

Also realize that Crary ND is not on the west coast, so after the pallet cut-off date, all the ammo has to be consolidated and wrapped up for shipment, put a bow on top of it, and then it gets put on a truck (ground shipment again) for delivery to The Coast, and the truck sort of meanders its' way across the US to a port, and then gets scheduled for boat shipment.  Long story short, it's usually a month (or two) before the ammo shows up at your door step.  example:  for the last pallet, I ordered stuff last week of April to meet the May pallet cut-off.  Delivery to me will be next week, i.e. end-June.  Been doing this for years, now.

Ammo only, no powder, no primers.  Those require different HAZMAT shipping protocols that Kaleo is just not geared up for, as I understand it.  IMHO, it behooves you to order case lots of ammo, to help with pallet density as Jen mentioned above, and to also reduce your per-unit shipping costs.

just be aware, with most mainland vendors, since your billing address is probably in Hawaii, and your shipping address is in North Dakota, and it's your first time ordering with them and they don't know you from Adam, there may be a required phone call, to talk in person with the vendors customer service rep, to insure this isn't CC fraud and to establish your bona fides.

hope this helps.

Appreciate you sharing this information.  I hope Kaleo continues to provide this service.  Of course I'm hoping more people get interested in buying ammunition this way and makes it a win-win for both customers and Kaleo.

Although I haven't ordered ammo ala carte by freight forwarding to Crary ND, I've ordered bulk ammo from Kaleo in the past and appreciated their commitment to acquiring the best pricing and customer service.

just got the bad news email, Jen said that their ocean trans-shipper closed up (unexpectedly), so that the pallet that's currently enroute will be the last pallet.  tentatively scheduled to arrive mid-Sept.

Jen said that other shippers charge 2-3 times as much, about $5 to $6 a pound, as compared to the current appx $2 per pound.  So Kaleo is suspending their Hawaii ammo freight-forwarding business.

maybe in the future, some other avenue might open up.   Jen said they are looking...

now I wish I had ordered more on that last pallet.  :(

Sonofa. . .  :(

Hope you got a good amount on the current/last shipment.   :shaka:

Jen and Kaleo provided excellent service for us for many years.  Beyond just being good people, going way out of their way to help many times.

Understand things may not be feasible.  Think things were teetering that way for a while.  Hopefully they can find other options.  Personally, I would be ok with paying a bit higher premium, which I've conveyed to Jen many times.  Happy to help support them.

I'm sure the shutdown of KHSC did not help Kaleo or the LGS also.

just FWIW, got an email from Jen, they've lined up transport again, should be about $2 per pound.  She said they're planning a shipment in January, trying to avoid the holiday shipping flurry.  Same ND address.
