What if the public institutions say you're not allowed to discuss their wrongdoings amongst yourselves?

Is that still a democracy?
Ita their form of democracy. Fall in line and believe what we tell u to believe, despite facts/stats/studies show we are wrong.

Hmm... did you see the very first post on this thread?   ;)

How many times do you have to be lied to, to stop believing the liars?

Ever heard of this saying?
"Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me."

So how are they making a play for the First Amendment?

Others people can say dumb things and its up to you (the listener) and not the government, to decide if should listen to it or not. (edited for clarity)

Galileo was considered by the scientific establishment as a crazy nut until he was not.
Draw some parallels to what is being questioned by whom now.

Wrong information can come from any side and you have to have an open discussion to sort things out and get to the bottom of things.

When you suppress differing discussion using the threat of force, you will never know the truth.  When they only allow discussion of what they will allow you to believe, that is not democracy.  That is propaganda.

Before you guys start getting into each other's throats, watch the "Rats in a cage" video by Chris Martenson.

We are all rats in a cage and pressure is being applied on everyone.  Let's not start attacking each other and figure out who put us here instead.

If you say dumb things that incite others to perform violent acts against others (like shoot up a synagogue or mosque) that is a problem. You say immigrants or democrats are invading America and raping children which causes someone to bomb a DNC office or kill immigrants in a shopping mall, you are responsible and that is a threat to our country and everyone who lives here.

Yes, to your point, I have to agree with you.  Calling people to perform violent acts against the innocent are never a good thing.  But place the fault to the ones that are actually doing the violent acts, and not on the wrong person's doorsteps.

If you take an honest look on who is doing the incitement of violence against others, have you never seen the videos of Hollywood celebs and DNC politicians calling for violence against others?
Seattle BLM / Antifa activities against Andy Ngo for example?  I could spend all day listing others, but don't want to spend all my morning doing so.

Ideas are "dangerous" for sure, but its up to people's morality to know what's right and wrong.  Oh wait, they stopped teaching morality and empathy in schools and instead pushing isolation and this new diversity stuff in schools.

Well, nice chatting with you, but I got to go back to work.

I like the rats in a cage concept. I tell my son to be kind to everyone because you get back what you put out there.

And yet you come on here and threaten people who dare to question the government. What do you think you deserve to get back for that?
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

Google your example and Dan Bogino. Then come back and post what he said.

I ask myself why should I believe the side that:
1) Suppresses others
2) Moves goal post
3) Making a ton of $ (shows motivation)
4) Has a history of being wrong (CNN, etc...)

Yet we are all expected to believe them when they tell me something just because they hold an official position. Fool me once...

Any false narrative.

Anyone who is a student of history should recognize how major events have started or gotten worse over false narratives.

The Tulsa Race Massacre started or was exacerbated by false narratives.
A false narrative was spread on Facebook that lead/contributed to the Myanmar genocide.
Look how Jews were treated leading up to and during WW2 over false narratives about jews.
Look at the riots that happened over false narratives about Michael Brown having his hands up when he was shot by police.

Who can sit here with integrity and claim that false narratives never pose a threat?

What was the false narrative in 1921 Oklahoma that started the Tulsa Race Massacre?  Seems like it started because a man was lynched the year before, and there was talk of another lynching being planned.  When a group of black men arrived downtown to ensure no lynchings occurred, they were quickly and peacefully turned away when the sheriff assured the "mob" they had everything under control.  It was not until someone tried to disarm one of the black men, and was shot for his efforts, that the riot ensued.  Details matter.

Please show me where the Myanmar genocide was tied to FB.  I have never seen that stated anywhere.

Jews have been the scapegoat of governments and others since the beginning of recorded time.  They've been used as slaves, had their land stolen, used in literature as the villains (Shakespeare -- Merchant of Venice), and stereotyped in all manner of ways.  That narrative did not originate with the Nazis, and it became a Holocaust because of the policies of a madman in charge of the country.

False narratives used by the government and media at large are different than those narratives from individuals on Twitter and FB.  If the government lies, that can have much more violent outcomes than if you or I post something false on social media.

So since Fauci has been wrong multiple times, would it be OK for the government and it's partnerships with media's to  censor him and shut down all venues that would give him access to speak?  This is rhetorical, there is no way Fauci would ever be censored like how people outspoken about COVID are.

2 of you're examples show where the problem is...the media.  The same media who is doing what they do best, divide people.

We can add to the WW2 thing that Hitler controlled the news stations and broadcasted that Poland attacked Germany 1st. Control the flow of info and you control the people.

The Tulsa Race Massacry didn't start as a result of a false narrative as far as I read rather it appears exacerbated by one. There were rumors spread about the black town that contributed to the violent response by white people.

Here is a few stories about the Myanmar genocide.

I am aware that jews had been demonized and scapegoated well before the Nazi's, I didn't say this narrative originated with them.

A false narrative causing great harm can be spread by a government, by a private corporation, by a leader in society, etc. People are perfectly reasonable to be concerned about false narratives regardless of the source.

You give a broad statement, but it doesn't tie into your examples at all.

And I'm not going to read a bunch of links to see if they bolster your claims or not.  I can Google them if I care to.  So often, you just look at the headlines, and i have to tell you the article states the opposite of your position.  Either give me the bullets that support your position, or don't bother with Google.

I'm not even sure what "People are perfectly reasonable to be concerned about false narratives regardless of the source." is related to.  We were talking about whether false narratives were responsible for violence, not what people were "concerned about."
