I'm thinking about doing it this time. I'm in a bad reception area with just a small HT so that's been my excuse, but with Brandon's creepy fingers hovering on the internet kill switch it's probably time to seriously pursue decentralized alternatives.

I'll be listening with my UV-5R.
Given my location I doubt I'll hear much.

What frequencies are you monitoring?   Have to admit my assortment of HTs are mostly programmed to repeaters.
Should enter a few simplex I suppose.

I'm not sure just yet.  I can barely pick-up NOAA weather radio from Maui, so I'm not sure what to listen for
and where on My property I have to be.
Like my cellphone only works reliably in one or two places around the acreage.
Any suggestions?

Try this page for repeaters and suggested simplex freqs.
Have found this list often has inactive repeaters listed.

I tried to take part in the exercise and well... it was a learning experience. Looking forward to having the right equipment to pass a winlink message next time instead of trying to figure it all out the night before.  :-*

Real quick, if you dont want people to know who you are or do not want to dox yourself.  Do not give your amateur call sign on the net or anywhere not on the radio as required.  You can simple look it up on the FCC site and get that persons name and address.
If you are licensed you probably know about repeater book already.  It gives the frequency of available repeaters in the area.  https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/Display_SS.php?state_id=15&loc=%&call=%&use=%
If you know about radio you also know about propagation.  https://qrznow.com/real-time-band-conditions/

Yeah I know the cops and fedbois lurk here so I'm not giving up my call sign. Don't want to make it too easy for them.

Looks like there is another ARES exercise coming up for the 16th of July

the sign up will be at https://hawaiiares.net/ but they have not posted it yet

It's too late to register because the exercise is tomorrow morning, and you can still listen in.

Frequencies are on form ICS 205

some operators had a two table area at the gun show this weekend
first time i've seen this booth

hvybarrels

This is increasingly important as ww3 just started.

Now that international infrastructure has been targeted the next thing to go down could be ocean cables or satellites.

Our cell service on the islands barely functions in normal times

Thanks for the reminder

I'm starting to look into these.

There's a food YTer who travelled to Egypt with his crew and they had radio's. Over there, they're illegal.  Guess they can be used to rise against their government. The gov consfiscated that and his camera equipment. So they shot the entire series on an iphone. The gov also tried to delete the vids, but didn't know about the cloud. When they left is when they got all their equipment back. But in a sealed case and they coouldn't check to verify it until the plane took off
