It costs lots of money to change a towns name. Post office has to change
and there may be a ripple through for all the residents. their preprinted
address labels et al.

What is important is that the injustice is corrected at any cost.

Will it work?  We have a town that officially is named Kamuela, yet
everybody calls it Waimea. Why is that?  I know where the "Real"
Waimea is,  I've been there.
My point is this, what the people that live here call things is local custom,
not what some busybody in the legislature thinks is "correct".
If we wanted to call Captian Cook Ka’awaloa, we would.

Save your's and our money.

Changing the name of a city or town can be depressing for those who were born and raised there.  How would you like it if the place you grew up suddenly disappeared from the map and was replaced?  It's hard to say, "I was born in Newtown," when you were actually born in "Oldtown."  If the official documents (birth, death, marriage, incorporation, business correspondence, etc, etc, etc) still has the old name, it can create some confusion for anyone not aware of the name change.

The official Hawaii flag contains the flag of an actual empire:

Quote
By 1913 the British Empire held sway over 412 million people, 23 per cent of the
world population at the time,[2] and by 1920 it covered 35,500,000 km2 (13,700,000 sq mi),[3]
24 per cent of the Earth's total land area. As a result, its constitutional, legal, linguistic, and
cultural legacy is widespread. At the peak of its power, it was described as "the empire on
which the sun never sets", as the sun was always shining on at least one of its territories.[4]

If the objections are from leftists it begs the question...

Is this about justice/fairness/triggering or do they just want to erase the history of people who successfully stood up to empires?

Captain Cook was in part responsible for uniting the Hawaiian Islands by initiating western contact and the arms trade/supply.

The British backed Kamehameha I with firearms and cannons.
Encouraged his Imperialism?

Kawa’aloa is a nice name though. Should be the next new subdivision in Capt. Cook.

Granted Captain Cook didn't overthrow the Hawaiian Nation but I can understand why people who feel their nation was overthrown unjustly would not be happy with a town named after Cook.

If you cancel Cook shouldn't your cancel Kamehameha the First as well?

Probably need to go rename that school up on the hill in Kalihi.

I'd wager it's the same geniuses who tore down statues of Abe Lincoln over racism.

There's no rhyme or reason to their actions.  They simply follow their noses from one faux offense to the next.

It's the people who benefit from these "useful idiots", that being the Democrats and the Socialists.  The less we as a nation remember history, the more likely we are to repeat it.  And they'll be waiting to profit off it.

How many millions did the BLM leaders pocket?  And for doing what, exactly?  Better question: what did they even want -- specifically?

Watch the movie The Music Man if you haven't done so recently.  The plot of the story illustrates how one can create the appearance of a crisis, then be the one to sell them the solution.

Instead of a pool table, BLM sold us the "Hands up! Don't Shoot!" lie.  They even had accomplices in Congress who used that slogan for all manner of staged protests, fund raising for their campaigns, and to push pork barrel spending bills.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool the sheeple every time there's another crisis or death that fits the Left's narrative, shame on the sheeple, the Media and the Politicians who milk it.

I could not agree more.

I think there should be statues erected and cities, town, streets, etc. named after Hitler and his minions in the Nazi party all over America.  The US empire's current financial and military support of Ukrainian Nazis against Russia is proof that most Americans today forgot what the war in Europe during WWII was all about.

Also not understanding why they aren't celebrating the name as Anti-Colonialists. It was where evil whitey Cook was killed, not where he first landed.

I have made this exact argument many times to both family members and friends. Everyone just gets mad, so I don’t bring it up anymore lol.

https://allthatsinteresting.com/gibbet

"Although gibbeting is a thing of the past, remnants of the practice can be found throughout England.

...Furthermore, many criminals lent their names to the places where they were gibbeted. As a result, many of England’s towns and regions have roads and features that bear the names of gibbeted criminals. The names of these places serve as reminders of the disturbing punishment that the country once embraced."

It is ok for Native Hawaiians to kill Native Hawaiians to establish a government but not ok for white people to do it.
