(As far as selling stickers at booths, tables, etc) About "selling" stickers, and to a lesser point, selling shirts. I'm seldom passionate enough about anything to spend $1 or so to buy a sticker and find somewhere to stick it. Maybe not everyone is like me, but I find it unlikely that a casual gun owner or person in the dark will go out and buy it. I mean it's a great passive way to get the word out. I think stickers should be given out instead of sold. I realize it takes $ and will be willing to make donations were we to get organized. Sorry but I fit more as a minion than a leader.

I can't believe I've missed this topic for so long.   :o

I am sorry, but I  cannot devote as much time that is needed or spend a lot of money on the issue that I believe is one of the most important issues we face today. Not only is it an issue of self protection, personal responsibilty, and dedication to the protection of family,  but also is one of FREEDOM, on  which this country was founded.  An attack on one of the first freedoms with the founders of this nation has bothered to put in the list of our God given rights is like an attack on America.  To me any attack on our freedoms is in need of everyones attention.

I have just purchased 100 2aHawaii.com stickers, with the intention of passing out these stickers and directing anyone I can to this web site.  I know it's not much,  but I would like to do what I can.

tonsofguns (from this point on you shall be referred to as tog), thanks for reviving this thread!  :shaka:

So maybe it's not my place, but I propose that we set up a meeting place/time for those that are interested in being more proactive with these issues. I don't have alot of money to contribute, but will gladly donate time and skills. I am off island until the end of the month, so MY vote would be the first ____ (Mon/Tues/Wed/etc...) of the month. Then we can pick a location and we'll have a set schedule that we can publicize to hopefully get more participation.

2aH, do we have a Facebook presence yet? If not, shoot me a PM and I'll get one set up and administer it.

Heavies - Thank you for trying to get the word out. In your honor, I have created an "Armed with Aloha Get-The-Word-Out Pack" item in the store :) It's 100 stickers for $25 for anyone who wants a bunch of stickers to give out. Check your email for a partial refund to reflect that price.

Alex - Of course I have a Facebook presence...kinda...and you already are a fan :P But I am always looking to improve upon it. If you have any suggestions on ways to improve it, please post them here or PM me.

For Everybody,
Simply being a part of the forum is a small step towards changing attitudes about shooting in Hawaii. I think that each little thing we do here adds up to change. If you look at the last legislative session, for example, look at how many more people submitted testimony compared to years previous. I appreciate having you all as members here and definitely realize that each person has a different comfort level as to what they can contribute.
Mahalo for your support,
2A

^^  Thanks 2A, and everyone else here! ^^

I think that change can and will happen, However, it may be a slow process, but there have been many new, rather groundbreaking, devolpments in the past few months. (at least for the mainland anyway)  ;D  Also, we can't forget about the recent law passed that bars confication of firearms during disaster, and the law providing protection of homeowners, from civil litigation, in the event of protecting themselves at the home.(castle doctrine)  We're getting there...

Kudos to 2A and everyone here as well....as Heavies so correctly noted, things are changing, but slowly. Considering the recent primaries here, it is not unreasonalble to think things may move a little slower. But, we all need to keep on pushing. This is definitely a long distance race and we cannot lose site of the ultimate goals. We may not always agree, but we have to continue to support each other in this. We have to bring in those thousands of silent gun owners, to continue to mentor new gun owners, and sometimes, when necessary, even poke and prod those who need to get a little more "active." We cannot allow ourselves to get frustrated into inaction and apathy.

I know that this year we can expect twice the amount of written and public testimony, right? That each of us will make it a point to talk to his or her elected representives about what we want and to keep in contact with them throughout the legislative session, right?

OK, I'll stop drinking so much coffee so late....and get off my soapbox.

But really, thanks to everyone....keep up the good work!

1.  Removal of the requirement for permits to acquire. Constitutional

2.  Removal of the requirement to register firearms, to include the destruction of all existing records and the dissolution of all police firearms units statewide. Constitutional

3.  Removal of limits on magazine capacities. (I believe this can be overturned on the basis of a magazine is a essential part of a firearm, and as such, magazines (now called "firearm") are in general use in greater capacity then ten rounds. I think this would stand to Miller vs. US test and be overturned.)

4.  Removal of silly language defining the term "assault" in relation to firearms. If the ten rounds goes away, what's the language matter imo.

5.  Removal of all language pertaining to carrying firearms. Portions of this will go away, most likely the good cause (pending peruta and partially nordyke)

6.  Removal of restrictions against Title 2 weapons. Eugene Volokh, a UCLA Professor and legal scholar, doubts this. He has essentially predicted everything so far accurately. I don't think this will happen.

In more-or-less that priority.

What am I willing to do?

A.  Submit testimony

B.  Make television and radio commercials (assuming there's money to run them)

C.  Design flyers, handouts, and mailers

D.  Sit around tables discussing strategy and options

I am willing to do testimony. Saving money for court documents and stuff so I can't give away much. I did contribute to the SAF, joined the HRA recently, and also purchased a website related to hawaii ccw.
Feel free to hit me up if anyone needs assistance or wants assistance.

I think this one is really just about the language shaping the gun from what it really is. Gives people the impression the gun is alive and aggressive. It also gives an excuse to divide the category for an easier time prosecuting it's legal use. Look at California. A firearm is considered an "Assault" weapon and illegal if it has 2 of 3 things - a flash suppressor/muzzle break, pistol grip, and detachable magazine. It's a language that allows legislators to say, well if we can't take ALL your guns, we'll take away just THIS category because it sounds dangerous so voters will think they're being saved from us deranged gun owners. Hawaii is not that stupid but we're also not that far off, me thinks. Also this play on language and emotions really affects the entire country.

Will you be posting the website anywhere? Found it in the other thread. Thanks!

So....any thoughts on setting up a meeting place/time? Meeting face-to-face is almost always better for getting things accomplished, plus (IMHO) it gives the "movement" more credibility.

Alex, see my other posting.

About a place to meet etc.  Why not Join and ask already Established clubs/groups for their input?

Are you linked with KK website?  Wouldn't that help newbies?  How about other links with HRA/NRA/LIFE?

Ask LIFE or the HRA for help/suggestions about places to meet.  If it's just a place to meet, a centrally located school cafeteria
may be OK.  Don't know what requirements are(deposit, clean up, refreshments etc)

Since MPPL has night shoots at KK, maybe it's time the various gun groups demand lighting for night "games".  Old street lights etc.

Another thing should be a large covered meeting area.  Like just a big roof, open on all sides for goups to meet.
Great cover for the Shooting Sport Fair, Hunting Fishing days and any Organization which needs a large covered open area.
KK has lots of FREE parking.

Time to start a list of who's coming.  When and Where.  Pick a Day/Time that's open to most people.  I'm retired, almost any day
and time is OK with me.  Not the Wife.  She works normal hours.
