All thinigs Taser/stun gun related in HI (non legislative or lawsuit related) (Read 8526 times)

With sellers permits finally issued, figure we should have a thread so others can learn what works when carrying or what can be improved on.  This thread will be for any input or questions or stories.  But no legislative stuff or lawsuit related. We can post those separately because they will need their own thread.

When one carries a Taser concealed, there is a reduction of who knows what you are carrying. So you can walk into any business with one and no one will be the wiser.  It is not illegal to do so either, but if the business owner/staff ask you to leave, then you must.  But that would probably be more for open carrying as a CCW one would be harder to see.

I know a guy who open carries all the time and no issues. He's been to Whole Foods, HPD stations, Safeway and no one cared. He did have people approach him and ask where they can buy one.  He has even interacting by choice with an officer for another issue and the cop asked what he was open carrying and he replied a Taser. Cop didn't care or ask about it again. Or ask to see it to confirm it isn't a firearm. This was recorded on video, which is how I know of this specific situation.

I spoke to 1 seller and after having his selling permit issued for 1 week, he has released 50 Tasers to customers.

I've been carrying a taser only IWB at 4o'clock position as that is the only holster that I have.  I use the We The People brand.  It has a clip that is very tight, so when I use it without a belt, like with basketball shorts or board shorts, I can draw it and the holster stays on the waistband.  I did buy ULTI Clips for the purpose of needing it when not wearing a belt, but don't need it.

Then on the days that I have to tuck in my shirt for work, I pocket carry. Which I remember a thread by Inspector on him pocket carrying a pistol. When I do so, I do so without the holster because it's too bulky. But I do feel my safety thru my pants pocket to make sure the level is on safe often through out the day.  THe only issue is that it fills my pocket. And I do have other stuff in them anyways like phone, keys, money, hand sanitizer, OC spray, knife, so this is just 1 more thing to add.  Rear pockets are already filled with wallet, gum, and flashlight.

After CCWing a VP9 in Vegas, I can say CCWing a Taser Pulse is much more easier due to the size and weight difference.

So far I haven't been anywhere that didn't have a "no taser sign".  But due to CCWing, no one would know.  And even if they did, that sign doesn't have the weight of the law behind it for private businesses.

Have you decided what you will do if you actually have to use it? Drop it and run away like Axon recommends or keep the gun and reload.  You get a new one free if used in a legitimate SD situation and file a police report. If it was me, I would prefer to keep the gun, but have to make sure the perp doesn't get up and chase me down. So I will need to incapacitate him while the unit is still pulsating.  I could kick him in the face or pull out my Mace gun and spray him in the face.  If more than one perp, a very likely situation,  I would need to start using my Mace gun. Anyway, I am not carrying a Taser but was wondering what you guys that do, plan to do in the aftermath.

The option to reload has been removed for me.  1, I don't carry a spare cartilage. 2, to remove it while under stress even if time permits and reload would hinder my self defense usage success for other secondary options.

So dropping the Taser and running to safety.  Even if the perp picks up the Taser after 30 seconds, it can now only be used as a stun gun (pain compliance).  But then again, what if someone is injured and cannot flee to complete safety?  But generally speaking, having 30 seconds to run is a good choice.

If you choose to Mace and kick, you probably will face charges because the threat is over while you were doing so.  As in the guy has been incapacitated.

Like I mentioned above, I have more than 1 tool for self defense usage.  So if the taser fails, I have other options, depending on the situation.

So far I haven't been anywhere that didn't have a "no taser sign".

So, you weren't permitted to go anywhere with the Taser?   :geekdanc: :shaka:

There's a reason the gun is designed to keep zapping the perp unattended -- because that's normally going to be the bast option.  Get some distance between you and him, and look for a safe place to hide/wait for the police.

I'd recommend carrying a spare cartridge, only because you can't predict if or when you'd ever need it.  I CCW on the mainland NOT for the situations I can predict needing a gun, but for precisely those situations I can't foresee.

It's good to have training, planning and preparation for the 99% of foreseeable circumstances, but you also have to plan for that 1% of the time that you never saw coming.  Based on my own imaginary "what ifs", I'd be more inclined to carry a backup Taser in lieu of a spare cartridge.  As you said, the size and weight are benefits.

Why do some carry backup pieces when they carry a primary firearm?  For the same reason: the unforeseeable.

On the mainland I carry 15+1 and for awhile two spare 15 rd mags.  Boy that was heavy.  On my last couple trips I only carried 1 spare. I am looking for a smaller and thinner CC weapon than my G19. That one will have a RDS and 8 rds mags will be ok, I'll carry 2 spares.  I am derailing this thread. Sorry CMO.

Instead of carrying 2 mags, which double the weight of 1. Just carry 32 rd xtendo clip. Its lighter cause its only 1 mag.  #science

The x26 has more power, like 35-40% more,  than all the newer models, including the ones it replaced.  Axon reduced the power to lessen the chance of causing cardiac arrest. There are a few complaints by LEOs that the new ones weren't strong enough.

BTW, I did order one for $200 and 2 cartridges for $30 on Monday.  It still shows order being processed,  but my CC was charged. Will see what happens.

Would those who already purchased Tasers be willing to share the details of "who, what, and how?"

It would be good to see if all dealers are offering the same products at the same prices, what the purchase process involves, etc.

I checked the Taser website, and there's a dealer doing business here in Mililani from an apartment address.

Experiences and suggestions for those of us planning to pull the proverbial trigger soon would be much appreciated.   :geekdanc: :shaka:

The ones listed on the Taser website are trainers and dont actually sell them.

I would not buy a taser from anyone who required a $200 class.

Bushido Ammo, Koffinworks, and X-ring require no $200 like class.

808 gun club and Firearms international require a $150-$220 class.

HGS and Kit n Gun are unknown.

I stated this before elsewhere but I'll repeat. Someone I know personally ordered a Taser Pulse from a mainland dealer on Jan 7 for $257.  Paid $6.95 USPS priority mail. Received on Jan 15. No tax, no fuss, no muss and by far cheaper than any place else.

Also some have bought while on vacay on the mainland. And if youre staying at family/friends home, just order online and ship it to them. Then when u get there, take posession. This is legal to do in Nevada. Idk about other states, but im gonna lean towars its legal. Only HI and a few other states is up tight about tasers.

Firearms international may no longer require the $150 class via their IG story. Can anyone confirm?

Has the Pulse+ been discontinued?  Backlogged?  The Taser website doesn't seem to offer it unless you get the bundle with it.

https://taser.com/products/starter-bundle

Taser's site lists the bundle at $600 (normally $740).

Firearms International has the Pulse Plus without the bundle, as far as I can tell, for $450.

My understanding is that the pulse plus is going to be discontinued and replaced with the bolt c2.
Something about the pulse plus feature that notifies the police is with a third party vendor.

You guys that got the Tasers, any of you fired a cartridge at the practice target that comes in the box?

No, because that would be illegal.
