the dawning of a new era thanks to HIFICO, on-line registering your newly-acquired pistol, and getting your HPD pistol registration via email

on-line pistol registration

who's been successful?
how long did it take?
did anybody's get kicked back for corrections, clarification?

I'm all ears.

let's limit this thread to pistols only, not long guns,
and on-line registration only, not PTA's.

How does turning in the signed permit work ?
Particularly private sale.
Seller sends registered mail ?
Do they need to receive the signed permit before completing the registration?

They were 2 days over due on mine, I was about to go in person to find out what the problem was when it finally came thru.

I'm not gonna do that. I kept record of me submitting it. So if they take longer than the 5 days, not my problem.

If the purchaser of the pistol wants to register it in person at HPD he/she takes the completed permit to HPD and turns it in at the registration window.

If the purchaser wants to register the handgun online, the seller provides the purchaser with a copy of the completed paperwork (or the purchaser takes pictures of the paperwork) and the SELLER is required to take the paperwork back to HPD and turn it in.  LGS/FFL dealers I've dealt with take their paperwork in once a week.  For the pistols I've sold recently, I had to turn in the psperwork, usually within 48 hours of the transfer.

IDK anything about sending in the papers via registered mail, the PO is more of a hassle than HPD.

If it's a private transfer, see my prior response above.

AFAIK, no LGS/FFL dealer will broker (or will bother with the time and expense of brokering) the transfer in a private transaction, since it is unnecessary.  You just have to know (and trust) whomever you are purchasing a handgun from.  A detailed receipt or record of transaction is always a good idea, both for the purchaser and the seller.

mine's were through an FFL, picked up the hardware on the weekend, did the online thing monday, got the email pdf on Saturday.  I don't know when when the FFL turned in the signed PTA to HPD.

How do the FFL dealers feel about having to go to HPD to turn in the signed permit when the buyer wants to register online?  Are they charging more?

The LGS that gets my business doesn't charge for registering online; it's part of the cost of doing business in Paradise.  They do not offer FFL services (as in bringing in guns purchased online).

The one FFL dealer who does bring in firearms from the internet/mainland does charge a separate fee if the customer wants to register their handgun online.  From what I understand, he's one of a very few who will bring in firearms from the mainland.  I have used his services recently and I consider his fees to be very reasonable.

the FFL that I used for my recent Gunbroker pistol purchase didn't charge anything extra for the on-line registration aspect.  he seemed pretty supportive of the new changes.  I think whether you-the-buyer register on-line or in-person, I think the FFL still takes the filled-in PTA to HPD and drops them off there, I think.  I didn't ask.  He charged the same fee as always.

Has anyone done this in a private seller transaction ?
Did you just leave your permit with the seller?
Did the seller just trust you to mail in the permit ?
Not really interested in theory. Just anyone who’s actually done it.

Read my posts--I sold a few pistols and rifles at the gun show and had a combination of online and in person registrations.

Got it.
One less trip for buyer but one more for seller.
Although Seller had to theoretical notify HPD of sale anyway by letter, not via signed permit.
Seller now responsible for submitting signed permit.
