Do’s and Don’ts Self Defense

With the inherent risks of going out everyday and with violent crime on a significant increase in our state, especially with CCW coming into view of a reality, we need to be aware, self-reliant, and efficient with how we recognize, react, and perceive potential threats to self or those around us. Do yourself a favor and check out Active Self Protection’s YouTube channel below.

It’s only increasingly relevant that we be knowledgeable and responsible when faced with potentially defending ourselves, loved ones, and homes. Check it out. Even if you know everything about laws and tactics and weapon handling, you can always learn more and it’s always good to be constantly evolving and learning.

Thanks to one of the ladies from HIFICO’s last meeting who works with John Correia, she let us know about ASP’s channel, and luckily I already was a subscriber.

If nothing else it’s something to watch and to see tons of ways that self defense can (or not) be justified and used.

1 thing besides being aware of your surroundings the ASP has taught is carry with 1 in the chamber. There are a few vids of the good guy losing because he failed to rack the slide.

Yeah, I don't really follow ASP, but there are MANY who share their content on here.  Great to share given the diverse group, which hopefully includes new 2a advocates with open minds joining.

Situational awareness is something all should have, not just for self-defence/reliance/etc.  Notice so many folks frankly clueless.  Case in point when I see folks around and their toddlers are running wild.  There were many times where a stranger could have walked off with a kid and the parent wouldn't have even noticed until way too late.

Thing I really took away from watching ASP over the years, on and off, is that SHIT HAPPENS SOOOOOOOO FAST!!!!

Like, if you are not trained to do it in your sleep, whatever skill or reaction is necessary, is unlikely to come into play during the fight to survive.

That, and also I noticed SOOOOO many people on those videos got nailed because they just were SOOOOO complacent. Almost surreal to watch sometimes.

On that note, I see so many people walking around now texting or otherwise using their phone or listening to headphones and earbuds.

We have 5 senses (some have a 6th, but I digress...).

If you aren't using your two most important senses to alert to danger (hearing and sight), you might as well be wearing a sign, "Make me a victim!"  Can you hear that guy running up behind you?  Did you see that guy walking ahead duck inside a doorway?  It's not enough to be ready.  You also have to stop wanting to be connected to work or entertained every second of the day!

Don't get me started. Riding in cars with friends or family that are driving, yet looking more at their phones than the road conditions... and when I "jokingly" say, there are laws against distracted driving you know, I get THE LOOKS like I got COVID or some shit.

and this is on top of the walking around looking at the phone instead of potential perps.
