If I'm not mistake it was 3.5 or 4" for folding.  Cannot carry non folding.  No tasers, slap sticks, batons welcome to Hawaii where victims cannot be ready to defended themselves.

3-4 folder should get the job done, but I want to carry my Kabar with my slippahs on and a tank top and shorts. :-) Thanks for the heads up!

I'm pretty sure you can carry any length fixed blade as long as its not concealed.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

See
134-51 Deadly weapons; prohibitions; penalty
 134-52 Switchblade knives; prohibitions; penalty
134-53 Butterfly knives; prohibitions; penalty

http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol03_Ch0121-0200D/HRS0134/

There are no length requirements. Only those items listed in the above and " "Other deadly or dangerous weapon" is limited to instruments whose sole design and purpose is to inflict bodily injury or death" are illigal. So you could walk around with a machede if you wanted

Ticks me off no end that I can carry a loaded handgun of my choice around but not a switchblade.

Meks no cents ay-tall.

I think we can blame the movies "The Blackbard Jungle" and "West Side Story" for the stupid knife laws we have all over the country.

<snarl!>

Interesting that there's so many knifings (if that's really the case, per the OP) in HI, even with the laws.  Goes to show you that if weapon A is banned, even for defensive purposes, folks will default to Weapon B.  So what good are the laws in the first place?

Crap, even kittens are allowed to have claws for defense.  See?  Concealed weapons:

I do believe that the radical and crazy notion that the Founders meant what they said, is gradually soaking through the judicial system.

You can carry any knife, of any length, as long as it is not a dirk (made for stabbing), dagger ( double edged), butterfly knife, or switchblade ( some assisted knifes fall under switchblade).

I would recommend carrying a dive knife.  However, "knives generally" are not dangerous nor deadly weapons per the Hawaii Supreme Court.  Concealability does not matter.

The police once arrested a prior convicted criminal, whom they knew was armed.  This man had a concealed knife, and they tried to charge him for concealing a dangerous and deadly weapon. The conviction was dismissed and the above "knives" generally, and dive knife statements resulted.

Any person,     not authorized by law,     who carries     concealed     upon the person's self     or     within any vehicle     used or occupied by the person     or     who is found     armed     with any dirk,     dagger,     blackjack,     slug shot,     billy,     metal knuckles,     pistol,     or other deadly or dangerous weapon     shall be guilty of a misdemeanor     and may be immediately arrested     without warrant     by any sheriff, police officer, or other officer or person.

I think all knives would fall into the  "or other deadly or dangerous weapon". Thoughts? It would only take one @hole officer to ruin your day, but then I would argue the concealment portion.

My guess would be something like a blackjack. A lead weighted (insert delivery method here). Gloves, sap, etc...

Need to microstamp all knives, register them, only allow them in your kitchen, from your place of sojourn to knifemaker etc. Shall issue permits only given by HPD chief. Need to get a permit to acquire with a two week waiting period so you don't just stab someone immediately...you just think about it for awhile

As FT stated, the HI Supreme Court has found that "knives generally" do not constitute dangerous or deadly weapons.  Unless there's something special about your knife that makes it especially scary, it's ok.  (So you probably shouldn't carry the Jackhawk 9000 advertised by Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights, for example.)

Probably best to find knives that are marketed as utility tools, utility blades or whatever.  Something like a ka-bar or similar "combat" "Fighting knife" as marked on its packaging I would think is a bad idea to carry.

I daily carry a custom made leather pouch with a leatherman holding a... 3" max blade, an opinel 3-1/4" folding single edge skinning knife, and a tactical flash light. Also a folding razor knife to cut boxes....

Am I breaking the law?
