from what i was told it was ^this^

doesn't matter what length, doesn't matter if it's fixed or folding as long as it's not concealed, not double edged, not automatic you're good to go.

EDIT: It can't be butterfly knife either.

I'm guess this would apply to having one in your car too? Dang, I thought it HAD to be concealed.

Awesome thread!

How about a fixed blade hunting knife? They look sometimes similar to a ka-bar except with a polished wood handle.

A short sword would be a wakizashi. This tanto had a 8" blade or so. A dull seppuku blade, at that. It actually belonged to his brother who had borrowed his car earlier to get the knife back from an ex-girlfriend, if I recall the story correctly. I know the brother well and he showed me a photo of the tanto. It was no sword.

Dangerous blade? Maybe. "Assault Weapon?" No.

There is no assault weapon statute that would apply to this.

As I said, Chris, he had a lawyer who just wanted to go home early. That's how the prosecutor pitched it to the jury and they bought it.

The only reason I mention the story is that if you are perceived as trouble maker then having a knife on you is a liability. If the police do not perceive you as a potential threat then having a knife, since it appears to be legal, is a non-issue.
