When was the government ever more efficient in producing something than the private sector?  There may be, but I am having a difficult time thinking of an example. 

And do you approve of your tax money directly going into the manufacture recreational drugs?  No thanks.

All falls back on corruption. What we don't want is they contract the making of it out and Mansato or cartels start legit businesses.  And now we are back to where we began.

There is also centralization of power and the lack of checks and balances.

Giving government (1) the means of production of profitable and addictive substances, (2) giving them a financial incentive for its use, and (3) the ability to mandate their use, seems like a big conflict of interest and very bad idea.
