Line is longer than the picture today.  Wait is still around 2 hours.  Need separate windows or hpd to take registration and weapon pickups or something.

Or we could just do away with the registration process. Psh. Yeah right!!!

How's about this for a solution for folks like us that already have a Permit to Acquire
 - Almost like buying a car...
 - Buy the rifle from the dealer
 - Rifle is already registered in the State to the Dealer when they acquire it right???
 - Dealer sends Rifle information information to HPD via fax or e-mail
to start the transfer process from Dealer to you
 - Receive your rifle registration paperwork in the mail or as a PDF via e-mail
 - No need to go to Police Department, except for Permit to Acquire initial or renewal process

Almost the same process for pistols -

IMHO, the lawmakers here will never do anything to simplify the firearms acquisition process. They want it to be a time consuming, frustrating process. There is probably a satisfied lawmaker smiling smugly at the thought of your difficulties registering your Henry .22, hoping that you will think twice about trying to buy another firearm.

That is very true. I love my suggestion better. Do away with registration.

HNN reporting that we are probably ahead of record pace for firearms sales this year.  Could have something to do with the line at HPD......................

As far as the registration process goes, you never know. I am originally from CA, and the system they have there is far better (registration-wise) than here. Until 2014 only handguns are registered, and that is at the point-of-sale. Long arms will likely be similar once the new registration requirement goes into affect. Everything is sent electronically to Sacramento, and there is no paperwork held by the owner. The state DOJ trusts the FFL, after all so does the Federal government.

The simple solution here in Hawaii (while maintaining the asinine registration requirement), is for the HPD workers to simply mail the registration paperwork to the owner after they receive the paperwork from the FFL. The FFL requires that information per the 1968 Gun Control Act, so how many layers of duplicity do we need? No visits to HPD unless filling out/picking up a permit (which is safer for HPD on several counts), no headaches, and takes advantage of the Federal requirements already in place. And it would SAVE MONEY!!!!!!

If California can do it with its union-backed liberal paradise mentality, why can't Hawaii?

Could we start writing to our legislators and ask them to change the laws?
I think, therefore I am armed.

Since it's a C&C thing, I would assume your City Councilman.  Maybe even the Mayor.

Got to HPD at 7 this morning.  Was 10th in line.  Left there at 8:30, and at this point, the line was to the metal detectors.

That really IS a good process.  You are right, why can't Hawaii follow suit?
