Sorry but this is actually for yesterday (July 16).
10:30 - Lots of parking underground, 1 person in line.  I was there to pickup permit for handgun and was in/out within 15 minutes
Went to the store to get the handgun
11:05 - Couldn't find parking downstairs, no side street parking or parking in front of HPD.  Circled around came back and a guy was just departing when I rolled back down.  There were 5 person's ahead but I was still in/out within 30 minutes and had a nice lunch at Lucky Belly to celebrate

after driving home first to secure my new firearm so I wasn't stopped in a place that's not authorized for transporting and storing my firearm.

There, I fixed it for you.  I know that's what you meant to say! :)

Kind of late, but:

Went in on a Tuesday to help someone. Line was to the door and took FOREVER. Luckily, didn't need a lot of stuff thought originally, so didn't have to stay any longer than needed to.

On a positive note, got to have a nice discussion with Mr. Gerwig and learned about future plans with the HRA, which sounded very exciting.
Had to go twice on friday, line was atrocious....... Sad times.

Went Wednesday morning (8/19) about 10:15 a.m., to pick up a handgun permit. Four people ahead of me. Took about 12 mins. from the time I opened the door until I left with permit in hand. The guys in front of me spent about 10 minutes longer -- two earlier customers were registering multiple firearms. Returned an hour later to register my handgun. There were only three people ahead of me, but again, there were a couple guys inside registering multiple firearms. Once I got to the window and my gun was inspected, it took a surprisingly short time for my registration form to be typed -- less than 10 minutes and no typos!  in all, I spent about 25 mins at HPD this time. When I left, there were nine or 10 people in line.
Lines aren't nearly as bad as during the scare in early 2013. But parking and traffic seem to be more of a problem. The metered stalls on the mauka side of King Street just past Alapai are all gone. And it's harder to get into the HPD basement because so much traffic is queuing up to get onto King St. Wasn't this bad before, but the creation of the bike lane  seems to hinder folks trying to get onto King Street from HPD.  It's a mess.
Registration is  a time-wasting bureaucratic exercise that tests the patience of law-abiding citizens.

Some lady at HPD showing an older lady how to use a gun.  Pulling the trigger in the main hall waiting room.  Oh boy.  Got lectured from an officer.

Long line 8 people.  5 people in the room.

No she was by where you get fingerprinted.  She was pointing the gun at the ground and pulling the trigger  fast with the cylinder in the pistol still.   She was teaching an older lady how to shoot it.
